Hello,I discovered this website many months ago, when I was first looking at buying a Vibe. Although I love the Vibe very much, I eventually got a 2002 Ford Escape instead, and am very happy with it. That's not to say I don't feel a tinge of regret whenever I see a Vibe on the road. It's been a while since I've been here, as I found a nice Escape website to frequent, but I rediscovered this website this week and I just want to say, it's good to be back! Hopefully there's a Vibe in store for me somewhere down the road!
Welcome back to GenVibe. Even though you don't have a Vibe, we still welcome you to the site! We are a site for owners and enthusiasts. Hope you get your chance to get a Vibe in the future.
Sure, what do you want to know? There were some issues I heard and read about from other Escape owners with the transmission 'shuddering', but that's been dealt with. I myself never experienced it, so I can't say much about it.If I knew what those 'bad things' that you'd heard about were, I could say more.
Only problems with the brakes is excessive brake dust on the wheels. Most people just replace the brakes with better ones, but it doesn't bother me that much. I never experienced any trans line leaking, but it's been a problem for some in the past. Most people took theirs into the dealer and it was fixed, no problems since. Haven't heard anything about rear differential leaking.I'm really amazed at the amount of interior space. The Escape doesn't look that big from the outside, but it feels very spacious on the inside. I'm not too fond of some of the materials used on the interior - it does feel plasticky at times. Of course, I have a base model. Moving up to XLT or Limited will give you a bit of an upgrade.Of course, the new Escape Hybrid and later models all feature better interior material, and if you want more luxury you can go to Mercury's Escape, the 'Mariner'.Overall, very satisfied with it all around - especially the peppy V6.Have I rambled for long enough, or should I keep going?
V6. Drove a 4 cyl., didn't mind it too much, but the V6 was the big thing separating the Escape from the other mini SUVs - 200 hp compared to others with 140.
