60K around the bend, what else should I look into doing.

Post by Whelan »

05 XR AWD, I just did the oil and got a rotation, the alignment was recently done as well.So what else should I be looking into. My coolant is crystal and needs no flushing, the brake, steering fluids are all clean and topped. The only thing I could think of would be to replace the tranny fluid. Is it worth it to get it flushed or should I just drain and fill? Also what about my AWD transfer case, never touched it. I checked the exhaust it is in good spirits and the plugs should hold me out for a few more miles at this point. Anything else I am missing, I have to check the manual just to see what else they recommend. Oh and I swapped out the wiper blades.

Remember the post the other day about me working in a tranny shop? Having your tranny "flushed" is just a way for a shop to make more money. It doesn't do anything. Having the fluid checked and maybe replaced might do some good, but when the "flush" it they just pour fluid through it, catch it, then put it back in your car.

I would get the tranny and rear diff serviced. It is not going to be cheap though. Flush and fill for both.

I misunderstood the thread title, I thought you were going to have a $60K windfall and were looking for mod ideas for the trix. bummerchange the rear diff and xfer case oil.buy a replacement serpentine belt and throw it under the rear deck in case you need it later.

I dropped the Goodyear Gatorback in there and it has been fantastic thus far.So the transfer case, rear differential and tranny. I can drain and fill those myself shouldn't be too hard I imagine. Should I change the tranny filter as well or is it still fine do you think? I hope that manual I have to check the manual from MO for the procedures.Oh here's one more, what kind of fluids should I use, I know people talk of all these different brands but I was gonna either stick with the dealer Toyota brand, or see if Castrol makes the fluids, since I use GTX for oil and nothing else.

I haven't looked at the maintenance schedule, but at 60k I would say change the filter.

I don't know much about that myself, but there's a guy here who seems to be well thought of in his interior and exterior care tips. Seems like he says to stay away from meguiars stuff though I think the tranny has a cleanable screen, but no filter. see http://forums.genvibe.com/zerothread?id=11524 , http://forums.genvibe.com/zerothread?id=19110 , http://forums.genvibe.com/zerothread?id=21102 , etc

OM says at 60k:-- Inspect for tappet noise and engine vibration. Adjust valve clearance to factory specs if necessary.-- Inspect fuel tank, cap, cap gasket and lines for damage or leaks.-- Change cabin filter.Otherwise I think you've covered everything.
