so i was just curious what people think of fram.My dad used to work for a company that tested all sorts of things, among them oil filters, and apparently fram failed miserably every time.my dad says if i ever put a fram anything on my car, he will disown me.i was just wondering if anyone else has the same opinion or if my dad is off his rocker, lol
I use puralator! get them at fleetfarm for 2 for 1 usually as long as your car has a filter on it, it should work. my dad only uses fram and all their cars work great. I just hear puralator was a good one for the 1zz.
He's not the first to say that about Fram. I've heard horror stories about the tests too...Personally, I ran them for years and never had any problems though. One car had 150,000 miles on it where it had Frams on it most of its life, didn't give me any trouble. On the Vibe though, I always stuck with the AC Delco filter. Can't go wrong with the OEM filters.

I used to use Fram. Then I read an on line oil filter comparrison a while back. Fram rated very poorly. Supposedly they had a bad habit of coming apart on the inside, allowing the oil to bypass the filter elelment and not get filtered at all. Purolator Pure One was ranked near the top, so I switched. When I joined genvibe, I was pleased to see alot of other members used Purolator. I remember GM did well also. I wish I could remember where I saw it so I could post a link.

FRAM is made from ground devil spawn..... STAY AWAY.... Much info about the "quality" of Fram product on BITOG.com and other places... If you can find the proper size, Amazon.com has 2for1'z on Purolator filters(PureOne also)... order over 25$ and get free shipping....
I have to agree with sublime on this one.Fram use to be a great filter.I was told a few years ago that they weren't as good for cold start-ups since they removed a port on the filters,so the oil takes longer to pass through the filter and get up to the vital components. Not sure if it's true or not,but it helped on my old cavy.

I would have no problem using Fram's best oil filters, the XG "Extended Guard" series. The pic below shows the XG (on the left) compared to their lower priced filters:I got the picture from this link:http://www.bobistheoilguy.com/...mport
I don't like Fram because there element typically is smaller (less sq.in.) But their gasket is better. I had bought an "Advance Auto" filter. It is exactly like a Purolator. Heck for $2 I thought great. Only to find that the textured paint is so thick the darn filter does not even spin on one turn after the gasket contacts the engine. Result a slow leak. Purolator is good . Just stay away from the Advance Auto one. I change my oil so often ...I just use Fram cause I know it won't leak at the contact gasket. ALSO beware the newer WALMART super tech filter(black). Which no longer fits in the filter wrench(socket type). The darn thing slips. So that's another to stay away from. The older blue one was just fine. Also the OEM is NOT AC/Delco it's Toyota.--------------------------------------------------------------------------------2005 AWD PlatinumAlloys, Moon & TunesPower group...just enough to be fun

I have twice had problems with fram. Both while in high school, and at the age of I'll just buy what is cheapest. One I had a few days after the chenge start leaking pretty good at the base, but not where the seal is, the base where the body meets the base and is secured. Another I has completely blow apart while driving. Had to get a tow.Currently I am using PureOne.
Fram's aren't bad filters...there's never been a posting at BITOG where a failed Fram filter caused engine damage of any sort. The main beef w/most Fram filters is that they are over priced for what you get. Why pay more for cardboard endcaps when you get metal or composite at the same price? You can pay $4 for an orange can or get an Advanced Auto (Purolator Premium) no-namer for $2 (less when they run 2-for-1). I buy the new Bosch's...which are Pure One's w/a little less media...for $3 on sale at CSK/Murrays; and of course, you can go Denso/Toyota OEM on Ebay and buy them by the case from various Toyo dealers; I paid $40 (including shipping) for 12 of the large black cans.As for BITOG, between the new layout...which sucks...and the rehashing of all the same subjects for the millionth time, take things w/a grain of salt. It's a real sheep herd mentality.(Bill in Utah still rocks though).
