Honda Odyssey Deal

Post by jake75 »

A person I know just bought a new 2007 Honda Odyssey EX MSRP $29,300 for $23,500. I was amazed that the deals were that good.

For the first time in minivan history, Honda can claim #1 http://www.autoblog.com/2007/1...title/Do you think Chrysler can sell 4,000 in 20 days to catch up to Honda?

That article stated "The Detroit Free Press reports that year-to-date, Dodge has sold 154,824 Caravans, which is a 21.4-percent decline from last year. Part of that has been explained with the arrival of a new model and the elimination of the cheaper, short wheelbase version."The SWB was a slow seller (5% of sales I was told). At my dealer these were the one's that had been sitting on their lot for many months. They were somewhat desparate to get rid of them. I stole one of those new SWB '07's for $15,517 (msrp $23,105) that had been on the lot for 7 months [and sold my '04 for $11,500 - $4.500 more than they offered me in trade].The '07 Chrysler LWB T&C's and Grand Caravan MSRP's were about $3,000 more than the SWB versions. The entry level 2008's are priced $1,500 less than the '07 Grand's and have a lot of added safety and other features. There are only a few people like me that liked the SWB for its size - 4 of the 5% would no doubt have gladly paid an added $1,500 for the Grand Caravans. Conclusion - not much of the sales decline can be attributed to the discontinuance of the SWB.The article also talked about the new Dodge Journey SUV taking the place of the SWB Caravans. With an optional 3rd seat that is suitable only for small fry I don't think so. Unfortunately, going forward I think Chysler is still going to have to under price Honda by a few grand to maintain their volume, even with their Lifetime Powertrain Warranty. Since that warranty is not transferable it does nothing to help the resale values. It only appeals to those buyers who intend to keep their vehicle for a long time - and I plan to do that with my '07.
