Sure seems like it with all their options coming out, Electric, Hybrid, E85, etc. They dumped a lot of money into these alternatives.

After all, people already run biodiesel using filtered 'trash' vegetable oil from restaurants. Works fine, but of course only as long as only a few people do it. Otherwise the supply would rapidly be exhausted.

I was talking about using other stuff. Like used cat litter, moldy food, worn tires, banana peels, used tissues, old sponges, chewed gum. Stuff like that.

.....they need a hybrid v8 to get 21mpg? thats so lame, just by putting a diesel engine in it they could get that. theres a guy who customed a hummer with a diesel and got more than that.

The problem with a diesel is that it costs about 10k to meet emissions standards. If you manufacture and sell, you are required to meet these standards. If you go to your garage and convert, you can avoid and pollute!

so the duramax diesel engine already sold by GM doesnt meet standards? put that durmax in a hummer and you get 22mpg... i also think europe isnt as smoggy as LA :S and they run tons of diesels. I havent seen their "pollution" emissions...maybe if i have time i will compare them..but the US now has the low sulfur diesel...it shouldnt be hard to meet standards, its mostly cali thats the issue.
