A Public Service Announcement - RE your phone number

Post by zionzr2 »

I just recived this e-mail and checked it out while it did not work with my phones as they are cell. It did work with other land-line phones that I could verify. You may want just anyone to find you, but I don not, so You can use this info however you may see fit.Quote »This was brought to my attention and wanted to pass it along. Google has implemented a new feature which enables you to search by a telephone number. Once you hit enter you will be given the person's name and address and have the option of getting a map directly to that location. It is called the nationwide reverse telephone book. Personally this scares me because you never know who can find your information and what they might do with it. If you would like to have your phone number blocked or check to see if it is listed, please follow these steps: 1) Go to google http://www.google.com2) Type your phone number in the search bar. Example: 555-555-12343) Hit enter4) To block it click on the link and a removal form will come up stating your options. All you have to do is type in your name as it appears in the phone book, city, state, and the phone number.

This may be new with Google, but reverse lookup has been available for years from other providers. Removing from them will do little to keep someone from finding you.

This functionality has been around on Google for many years now, I recall reading about this somewhere way back when. I think I may have blocked my old phone # back then. It doesn't show up now and my new phone number doesn't show up either.Ahh, the many uses of Google!

I wish that these people looking for my personal information would just give me a call. For $20 I will tell them my name, marital status, children's names, how much I paid for my house, my mortgage balance, traffic violation record, and my shoe size. Another 20 bucks gets my cell phone number. For yet another $100 they can have a copy of my most recent income tax return (with ss#'s deleted).

Man, I hate how widely available my stuff is... I'm glad I'm not important so I don't have to worry too much about this stuff.

Reverse number look-up is handy every once in a while especially when I get some wierd random phone call from somebody that I don't know. I redlava's best low monotone psycho voice. I know who you are and I know where you live.

I searched, and it came up with my info. That's fine - if someone wants to know, they'll find out one way or another. You can do the same on switchboard.com, dexonline.com, etc.Quote, originally posted by redlava »Reverse number look-up is handy every once in a while especially when I get some wierd random phone call from somebody that I don't know.Check out this site to figure out who a 'strange' number belongs to: http://whocalled.us/
