Can I borrow your cargo cover?

Post by Tubaryan12 »

I want to attempt to make my own hard cargo cover for my Vibe. Is there anyone in the Cleveland / Akron Ohio area that can let me borrow their cargo cover for about a half hour? I would trace it at work and get it right back to you. Just pm me or reply to the thread if you can help. If it turns out well, I'll make one for you as well. Thanks in advance.

I saw that the '07 was offering that as an option about three weeks ago. I called the dealer and they knew nothing about it. I have re-checked the website since then and cannot find the dealer-offered item. I use a side-by-side atv soft cargo cover on mine, so I cannot offer much help here...sorry.

Really simple. The max width is 24", length 50". Trim to exact fit.Regards,GeorgeVibe 2007

Thanks for the suggestions. I got a Matrix owner at my job to loan me his for 10 min and I got the initial trace done. I cut my 1st attempt out of foamboard and realized that the cargo cover doesn't quiet reach the back hatch. I am goint to use pieces of cardboard to make up the differce, trace and cut that out and then I'll be ready for stage 2. The tie down straps that come with the vibe spanning the trunk is a good way to have a semi floating hard cover if you aren't going to put anything very heavy onto it. It makes the foamboard dip when I put my briefcase on it but not enough to break the foam (and the foam is very light...an added feature)

I've got to say, that as much as I love just about everything about my '06 Vibe, the so-called "cargo cover" it came with really is a joke. Toyota and Pontiac should be ashamed to include such a cheap, flimsy item on what is otherwise a top-quality vehicle for the money. My wife's PT Cruiser (about the same price range as the Vibe) has a much superior rigid shelf/cargo cover that slides in to about three different positions, and stows perfectly flat on the cargo area floor when not in use.Still, I shouldn't complain, as I never really use the cover. Of the two vehicles, mine has been elected as the "Dog Car", and the rear seats are folded flat 99% of the time for hauling around our three dogs (with plenty of mats and pillows to protect the cargo area from scratches and accidents. It may be the Dog Car, but it's still my baby. Now, if only I could figure out how to keep the doggie nose marks off the rear windows...)

Old style center console lid. All-weather front floormats. Rear bumper fascia protector. Drawtite hitch.

Just PM me and we can set something up. I can make you my template that I have on posterboard and all you pay for is the shipping and board itself, no profit to me! Here are the pics and the link for my DIY I did.http://forums.genvibe.com/zerothread?id=26943

Finally a follow up:I had to abandon the project. I realized after I got started, that the bell of my tuba was higher than the cargo cover would sit. For that reason, I would be better off with a soft cover if all I want to do is hide whatever is back there.
