Last week I visited the Apple Store in Las Vegas and was amazed at the buzz surrounding the iPhone. I am just curious if any of our members actually purchased one. Here in Canada we are being told to wait another year or so before it gets here. Thanks gang!

The iPhone craze is just nuts.I've got a Cingular 8125 PDA phone running Windows Mobile 5. Except that the iPhone has 8GB, where I have 2GB (although I have multiple Mini SD cards for music), I've been doing everything the iPhone claims to do. Even with the extra memory and 3rd party software I bought (Spb Software House), the total cost has been well under $300. I can dial up family and friends by selecting their pictures (or voice dial); I have a good jukebox player that syncs to my laptop for playlists and such; I can take pictures and movies (albeit, not the best quality) and email them from the phone; I've got WiFi and Bluetooth capability; I use a bluetooth GPS receiver and either Live Local maps or Map4PDA software to do mapping/driving directions/business searching. And my unit has a keyboard...

iphone is def ridiculous. I won't be touching one anytime soon. Not to mention I would NEVER switch my service to AT&T, its horrendous, especially in my area. Me and almost all my friends and family have Verizon, a few with Cingular. Been with them since day 1, my number is fairly old too lol. But the service is great and I always have bars. But as far as the iphone goes, some people I guess are trying to hack them to get them to work on other services, lol. I'll just get a chocolate or something when my renewal comes this December. Although I'd love another LG, had two so far, they last forever!
silly rabbit, AT&T=Cingular same network. saying cingular is better means you are going by brand as opposed to the actual performance.i've said it before and i'll say it again, if it didn't have "i" at the beginning, there would be even more people jumping on it.i think it's pretty neat looking, a bit pricey, but pretty cool. kind of like having a little mac in your pocket! it even uses safari.

Did anyone read or see the story of the lady in California who went to a local AT&T store with $100,000. Paid the guy in the first spot in line $800 so she could get in there first. Well, when she got in there she found out that she could only buy one, when she wanted to buy 50 of them to sell them on Ebay. The guy that got the $800 really lucked out and was laughing at here once he got the money. So he pretty much got a free iPhone.

Quote, originally posted by ajflan »I question how well the screen will hold up. Look at touch screen computers, they start to look gross after a while.Good point. As kmvibe noted, the Cingular 8125 has a touch screen as well. I usually use a stylus, since my fat fingers don't always work. I started using clear screen protectors and they help some.
Quote, originally posted by kmvibe »Zuben: I have the exact same phone. I agree with you totally. Oh yeah....it also has a touchscreen.KennySorry, I meant a multipoint touch screen.
yes AT&T is Cingular, but I never said Cingular was good either. I think that whole network is crap. Compared to Verizon at least. If the chocolate is LG then sweet. I think your right. I gotta see what else comes out though cause I'm chilling with my VX8(something) and love it. It's been dropped, kicked, slid, opened a million times, and tons of heat from sunlight in the car. Screen still works perfectly, and all functions are flawless.
really, how good a network is to you is relative to where you are. around here, verizon is aweful, followed closely by sprint. cingular seems to be the best service herei have heard that the touchscreen is made from glass. if you drop that, it's peaced out.

That's great! I think it's hilarious that she was so brazen about it. If AT&T charges $250 to cancel all new contracts, that makes it that much more you will have to sell it for. She's probably one of those who made some dough on the Wii...

we just found out ATT/Cingular is buying out Cellular One. that means i will be able to get my hands and sell iphones. i cannot tell you how many people ask about them and want them, willing to spend $2000 for an unlocked version. yes, i had a couple customers willing to spend it and buy 2...
Just like any new technology, early adopters pay for it - HDTV, DVRs, computers, etc. When Razors came out, they were $500+, and now you can get them for free.I'm a techie toy junkie, and am truly amazed by the capabilities of the iPhone. But it's definitely not on the top of my priority list for now. Not only spending the cash, but I don't want to switch carriers. If Verizon gets it down the road, and the price is down to a couple hundred dollars, I'd buy one in a heartbeat.
I spend more money on cell phones than most other people I know. I travel a lot, and I have a lot of demands for just about any device that's going to accompany me. I've played with a few that friends purchased, and it's undeniably slick. For what I use my phone for (aside from the whole talking thing), it's just not right for me, at least not right now.Quote, originally posted by AKLGT »willing to spend $2000 for an unlocked version. yes, i had a couple customers willing to spend it and buy 2... Do your customers know that a lot of the features of the iPhone won't work if the phone isn't on AT&T's network? Much like T-Mobile's Sidekick, the iPhone has features that only work w/ special servers that no one other than AT&T would agree to roll out. I know for sure that the non-GPS location-based directions, the camera (requires activation through iTunes) and the visual voicemail bits require it.

I've been using their Pocket Informant for a few years now on my PDA.As for mapping...download the CAB file here: http://www.google.ca/gmm/index.html and it will blow you away when you do the 'hybrid' mapping. oh ya, it will tie in with bluetooth GPS too!!
I have signatures turned off so I'm not even sure what mine says in this space!
from what I have read u cannot get a warranty like with a normal phone so if u have an accident u are iHosed. Also battery is about 3000 charges then it has to go to its iMaster for a new batt

Great prices and customer support, even if they're based in Europe! I have Spb Diary, Weather, Pocket Plus, and Backup. Not to mention a slew of games. I've tried Google Mobile Maps and hated it. Not enough cache (only 2MB), contact lookup is erratic, search function is buggy. If I want to do a quick traffic check, I'll used Live Local. If I want a decently detailed route for a long trip, I'll preload the route in Map4PDA and use it instead. They both link to my GPS very well and have hybrid maps. Another side note, my PDA sits perfectly on top of my ScanGauge and I'll use it like a mini-GPS (Map4PDA can display sideways). I should get a pic of that setup....

Someday I too hope to be in a position where i can spend 150%-200% of the price of a product and only be happy with the fact that I'll only be able to use 10% of it's features.

Usually 1st generation phones will have a few bugs to be worked out that get discovered in after the first 3 months of releases.
Agreed on it has to do with where you live. In San Fran Verizon was excellent, around the New England are you can't get better than Verizon and I know down in Northern Virginia Cingular was horrible. But Heck I even got service in the Dominican (they had Verizon towers, woohoo!)

well I am typing this from the iPhone. Its freaking awesome! I am using my tmobile sim and every thing has worked great. Im in my front yard connected to my wifi
I own a Mac and will be getting an iPhone once the second generation ones come out, and I'm a Microsoft Consultant, haha. They both have their uses and I'm no fanboy! But I have the ATT 8125 for work and I hate the thing. It's bulky, it's slow and not responsive at all, has a huge learning curve.............I'm glad I got it practically free because if I paid full price for this someone would die.
HAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAa nice! we can be the iphone twins. The summerboard sort of makes your iphone unstable, fyi. Like when you try to get to the menu it can freeze or just be blank. It only happens once every while, so like rarely. I just reset it and away she goes again, no biggie. theres a RDP app coming out so I can use that for work! super excited, just cant use LEAP authentication and no exchange email servers (unless imap is enabled which it is NOT at my work) so I cant use it for the two main things at work
my cousin's a mac geek. got to play around with his iphone the other day. like you said. wow. its pretty cool.actually, if the price comes down, i'd keep my motorola slvr and get an ipod touch. basically the same features but without the phonecool how you can resize pics by dragging out with your fingers. i'd just hate to drop it in the pool or something,m which i've been known to do with other electrical devices

Came with a free sound package 2g micro SD card and 2 adapters so I can just stick the micro SD into the SD adapter and stick it in my b/f's mom's printer and put my pictures on the computer OR i can just plug the whole phone into the computer and out songs on the phone. I can watch TV on it too... I like it, you should def, check it out. I was looking at the chocolate and the EnV and this one had a bigger screen. My BF had a slider and those are junk so i didnt want the chocolate cause i think it opens the same.Anyway, i dont own iAnything and I plan on keeping it that way. I have iTunes for work stuff but i rarely get anything off there for myself.

i still love the phone, but am running on the old 1.02? firmware, so the main menu still scrolls up/down. the new firmware allows you to do some cool things so i should upgrade soon...Oh the iphone has built in speakers too (touch doesnt) along with the phone part. but my manager got the touch and yes that thing is thin!!
