Oil Levels

Post by 04Salsa »

This sounds like a stupid question but here goes. I just got a 04 Vibe from the dealer and checked the oil this morning and found it is well above the top hole on the dip stick. While the manual doesn't specifically state where the "filled" level is (just talks about adding if below the bottom hole), I assume that the filled level is the top hole????? The oil level is about an inch above the top hole - if that is tooooo much what is the best way to drain out some - I believe it is about a quart too much????Thanks in advance!

The top hole is the max line.I would drain some out.You can either do it 2 ways, take the oil filter off and dump it,or if your quick, take off the drain plug and drain a little.

Or you can get a suction pump and drain the excess through the dip tube.

I've heard it's not good to go above the max line, good thing you drained some out...The guys at the dealer might have thought it needed the same as the GT, and put in too much.

If it were a different engine, I'd say drain some. However, wasn't there a discussion about '06+ 1ZZFE engines having a different oil capacity? Something about the pan staying the same but Toyota put a shorter dipstick in it? If that's the case, I wouldn't worry about your '04 being over an inch...
