need tire help fast!!!

my buddy has a 300sx its nice!he blew out a tire and doesn't have alot of moneyheres the big ? for yallhe has 255/40/18 tires on the front. the rim is a 18x8.5 can we put a 245/40/18 on that rim??? if it will work he can save like $60 a tirei know someone knows this stuff i need to know asaphit me up on here or email me Raivisdaddy2@aol.comthanks guys

The 255's are 9.9 inches across and the 245's are 9.5 inches across so they should work. I hope he is replacing them in pairs.

Calculator255 mm / 25.6 = 9.9 inches rounded off245 mm / 25.6 = 9.5 inches rounded offThe actual width of the tires is usually close to those number especially when you get down to 40 series tires.

The 245/40/18's are recommended for the 8.5 rim.So,he should be fine.

So long as he replaces it in pairs, he should be fine. I might notice some rubbing on the wheel wells as he approaches the bump stops, but he should be fine.

DjbWhy do I think that you are right. I have really gotten math lazy since I bought a scientific calculator a few years ago. Please forgive the conversion error. Damn college chemistry.
