Know your rights when stopped by the police.

Post by vibe-04 »

This is one of those "if you are guilty, shutup" things. I always own up to my stupidity, except when I'm smuggling 4 kilos of coke into Iceland Pretty funny to watch. http://www.flexyourrights.org/busted/movie_clips

Some of that stuff in the first few clips seems like things that would be viewed as talking back or that would get you surely searched or given an even harder time. Like "dismissing yourself" by asking if you're free to go...seems to me like the officer would say something like, "I'll tell you when you're free to go now let me search this car," if he was really wanting to be a (removed).

In that "I don't consent to any searches" clip, the kids get out of the car when they are pulled over. The officer approaches the driver while the passengers walk behind the police officer from the other side of the car.If you are ever in Maryland and get pulled over, do not get out of the car first. Do not let your passengers get out of the car and attempt to walk behind the officer. The police officer should and will draw his weapon on you. It used to be that getting out and walking back to the officer was a sign of respect, a way of making the traffic stop more convenient for the officer, especially in the rain. I attirbute a couple of tickets I didn't get to this. But times have changed, and so have police procedures. That cop stops you for whatever reason, his first priority has got to be to survive the encounter. Now when I am stopped I roll the window down, and if it is night I turn on the dome light so he can see what is going on in the vehicle as he approaches. Last time I tried to get out to greet the officer that stopped me I got a good look at the business end of his service weapon. Not a good way to start off the meeting.

I do all the respectful stuff too like rolling down the window's and turning on the dome light @ night. But I still get thegun in my face and told to keep my hands on the steering wheel. Freaked me out the first time. Now I'm starting to get used to it. It's been 3 times in a year I got the gun in my face. (Dude! I have a booster seat in the back and Fire/Rescue plates! Chill out!) And yet, no ticket's? Just hassels with how my car looks.I'm gonna be p.o'ed if one of these goobers gets twitchy and shoots me.

Be respectful answer questions directly, and hope for the best. That policy typically gets me out of a lot as they are a lot more apt to give breaks when you are honest and polite then give them ish about everything and answer questions with questions.
