Good Stereo (Update)

Good day all. After speaking with a few people from the stereo world plus reading articles here, I have finally made a decision on a replacement stereo. Let me know what you think.The head unit (Pioneer DEH-P5900iB):The speakers, both front and rear (Infinity Reference 6022i):Ordering all this from Crutchfield, should cost me about $390.00. Of course that includes all the mounting hardware and instructions plus free shipping. I'm going to look into maybe trying to mount an 8" sub where the stock sub is now. I know I would have to cut a bigger hole there. Just an idea.Opinions?

Another head unit I was also looking at is the Pioneer DEH-P6900UB. THis has USB support (something the other one doesnt have) built in. Looks pretty good to me.Here it is:Also, the kind folks at Crutchfiels also reccommended these Kenwood speakers (KenwoodKFC-1682ie). These speakers handle up to 250 watts while the others only go up to 60 watts.Opinions?

I'm not a fan of Pioneer, but lots of others here are. I love the Infinity speakers though.

i like pioneer! had 1 deck i got at 16, still works and im 23.5 yrs old. I passed it on to my sister though I say pioneer or alpine, but i think most alpine decks to be ugly.Infinity has good speakers and so does Boston acoustics. so imo you got some good choices for a basic upgrade.

I have had good luck with Pioneer decks also. And I think several people on this board would agree that the Infinity 6022i's are good speakers. In reference to the Kenwoods....watts aren't everything.

I've got the slim version of those speakers (infinity's) and I love them.

I like the UB version of the pioneer... I'm NOT a fan of the infinities.... On many different audio forums i'm a part of, they are touted as having the least amount of bass/mid-bass of the price point... I would go with the Kenwoods myself.. To go along with NUBlacks, watts aren't everything, the power it will handle is really VERY subjective... And the HU won't even come close to that.... Your typical HU puts out roughly 15-20w at best, regardless of what the ratings say....

Im kinda of leaning towards the second set up as well. I like the idea of the USB. Still don't know if I would tackle the install job myself.. The speakers, maybe but I don't know about the HU. Maybe if I had some help. Any more speakers I should be looking at?Thanks again!

Pick the speakers that sound best to your ears.Deck is cool, either way you go the system will be nice.

Don't get me wrong, demoing speakers is a GOOD thing... do it... but don't "always" trust what you hear on the demo board... Again, I really like the USB support... a 4gig thumb drive is like 60$ and if you use 4 gig of music in a MONTH, well you are driving a LOT... lol

I wouldn't consider that a LOT of driving Mind you, I also work out of town, so maybe I do drive a lot...

To add to SW's statement: When you go listen to the speakers at an audio store, ask to see if any of the employees have those same speakers installed in their car. And ask if you can listen to them in the car. I have done that on a few occasions and the salesperson has usually obliged my request. It still won't sound quite the same as in your car, but it is closer to the true sound than on the speaker dsiplay in the store. Worth a shot anyway.
