Passenger seat issue

Post by Dealiah »

My passenger seat jerks. This primarily happens when stopping or turning sharp corners with someone seated in it. I have checked the bolts on the bottom and all are secure. It appears that the right side front (as you're facing it) has some play in the seat frame itself. Has anyone had this issue? Any thoughts on fixing it? (2005 model w/ only 62,000 -- passenger seat not often used).

I'm assuming that when they get in it, they adjust the seat backwards or forwards - is this correct? I've noticed that sometimes, seats just don't "seat" properly - meaning the locking mechanism on the slider doesn't engage it's latch completely. The passenger may then need to "jiggle" on the seat to properly engage the latch as it's just caught. If you can verify this is the case, I know someone who filed the latch mechanism for a smoother action and another person lubed it right up. I'd personally be wary of using too much lube for this application.

No. That's not the problem. It only jerks on one side. If no one is sitting in the seat, you can pull upward on the front of the seat and it moves upward a bit on the right side (facing the seat). I even tried sliding the seat to different locations to see if that affected the amount of play -- it doesn't.

Have you checked the seat bolts? They might be loose. Should be a 14 mm socket.

That is what it seems like to me as well. I have checked all the bolts which are secure, but it seems to be where the seat is attached to the frame.Does anyone know if there is a way to take this off & fix it yourself without setting the airbags off? I'd hate to pay a dealer for this if I can do it myself.
