New VS Old

Post by 02csnow »

AS some of you all know. My GPS was stolen this weekend, so i went out and bought a new one. The same model but this time I decided to mount it different to keep it out of the windshield. Just seeing what you all think, so i set up a poll. Fell free to express pros and cons on both setups.Old- New-

I like it when people use that vent for different things. I think it's a good spot for stuff. that is, as long as you can deal with being minus one vent

I think they both look fine, but the one on the A/C vent looks like it'd be easier to see around and more within reach.

I would think with the new location it would be less glare on the screen from the sun.i vote for that spot

I was thinking the same thing with the glare from the sun. I guess great minds think alike. As far as losing one of the vents, it does'nt bother me and now the air comes out more stronger out of the one vent on the drivers side, which i like.

Do you take it out of the holster when you park, If I used it everyday I would so take it with me into work or keep it in my laptop carrier if I was in sales. Or just not put it in the car when going around town where I didn't need it.It's becoming all to common to see windows smashed for ipods, laptops and GPS units. Hence I made the hard cargo cover for keeping larger more valuable items hidden from view.

I have gotten in the habbit to take it out everytime i get out now and i am also looking into getting a alarm now.I also did the cargo cover to hide anything in the back. But i dont think i can do a cover to hide everything in the car.

You have to be careful.Sometimes advertising new electrical without a permit can cause problems when you sell.

I am not sure about the air vent...because it could get in the way of steering....not sure how much room you have there between the two

The new setup is nice! I have my GPS (Garmin c340) mounted right in the bottom middle of the windshield, just above the dash and I like that setup. I take mine out of my car to charge it (cause I don't have it plugged in, in the car), but that's about it. I might start taking it out more often now. Did you have a lot of glare from the sun with the "old" setup?

I had glare when it was in the windhsield, but now there is no glare. I also agree with Whelan with the clutter and wires. I hate seeing wires ran to something, and with it in the vent area, you only see the wire coming out the vent to the gps.

Did you have to get a special mount to mount it in your vent?

I'd love to hear more about the modification and wiring process for this mount. I've had trouble trying to put my GPS somewhere available and out of the way. This would be it. Maybe a how to in the works?

well it all depends on what unit you have. every gps has a different mount. i do know that alot of them have the suction cups on them. But i will definitely get some better close up pics for you.

I like the idea of the molding mainly b/c when something looks like it's in there and can't come out, you can't smash and grab, and you have to have time to get it out...Your only problem with the molding... you can't remove it easily if you wanted to use it in a different car. for a trip or whatever...
