Ya, I think my CATs are clogging up. If I'm driving for a while I'll notice that my power degrades over time. I think my cats are getting too hot and then becoming restrictive. Calling the exhaust shop tomorrow.
QUICK, how many miles do you have!? I had to replace my cat during the summer, i had the same loss of power and a P042something code. Took it to toyota and Pontiac both and they told me the cat was bad and it would cost $1200 JUST for the cat. BUT i got it done under warranty! I freaked when the tech had to go talk to his boss b/c I had a CAI and a after market header, but they were cool and did the work anyway.

we are in MN/WI so no emission tests....Although Im not about polluting a lot thas a easy route... or just get a new one.... is this the Magnaflow cat? or the pre cat one? cuz then you could get a downpipe to replace that. if its the magnaflow one, that should be under warranty
Ok, I'm going to replace them both. I will still see a performance boost that way and save a forest. Hey P, remember that smell after we went for a ride in my Vibe? That's the catalytic converter, I'm finding out now. I want to do this as soon as possible so I need to order them very soon. I've been trying to pick them out through Magnaflow's site. What do you guys think about these?PRE-CONVERTER 50005http://www.car-sound.com/02pro...0.aspCenter-Center Spun Ceramic 54955http://www.car-sound.com/02pro...9.asp
The pre-converter looks about right but I'm not sure about the center-center spun. You should check the length for ease of installation. If they're too short you'll have to add pieces of pipe.
I'm going to have them replace that piping anyways. It's 2 inches there and the Catback System is 2.25.It'd only be about 2 feet of piping to replace. I'll have them weld the catback on this time as well.
take it off i got an ebay o2 sem. and to the cat out you will love the sound it will make with your muffler , just keep your stock on for the emssion test if you have that
Ya, getting the rotten egg smell now. It's pretty apparent when it's cold, but the burnt smell is there after I'm driving for a while. Hopefully the cats get here on monday and I can schedule that appointment very soon.

It's an intricate mesh but not overly restrictive and it deadens the sound a bit. The honeycomb design is similar in all of them but it is how it is placed that is different. On the OEM one there are metal baffles that impede flow........they show it on the Magnaflow boxes on how they differ.
CATs were replaced on Thursday. The car is running pretty damn good right now so I'm glad I did it. The old cats didn't look really clogged, I could see through them but they were black and had a decent amount of soot in them.
