Project xrs06-t: Part deux!

Post by xrs06 »

Well guys, the last 2 years have been a hell of a ride. I've learned many things since my trix has been my first project car. In those 2 years, I've racked more than 10k miles without a single engine or transmission glitch with my turbo kit. The only part that gave (and still giving) me a hard time is the exhaust manifold. My first one warped, was planned twice and still warped after. Jesse at TK.com gave me a deal on a prototype but unfortunately, that one started to leak too about 2 weeks ago. After telling Jesse about my problem, he said that he will send me another one without me having to pay 1$. That one will have the cut between each runner to allow some room for the material to expand. Now that's what I call customer service. Many thanks to Denny (Riotrix), Nick (T&A), Mark (lifthard), Doug (LaserMcknight) and many more. Without you guys, my car wouldn't be what it is right now.No, I'm not selling my car. Actually, like the title said, it's time for some major upgrade. Usually, I bring my car in storage in a little town next to mine. But this year, I bought a car shelter (the one made with tarp and tubing) and decided to keep my baby close by. Well, last monday, on her last day on the road we started some major work and the end product looked like this: Yes, we removed the engine. Even though my engine was running flawlessly, I'm not kidding myself, it wouldn't last 10 years boosting 9psi with 11.5:1 compression. Might as well use it while it's still good! Here's my "racing-team": It took them less than 1h45min to get the job done. Not too shabby for 2 Volvo boys!!!Well, took my engine home and now I'm dissassembling it slowly but surely. And finally, the patient on his bed, ready to be taken care of: The goal is to go measure the clearance to see if the Mahle low comp pistons will fit in my block. If the clearance is ok, I will order the piston, along with some main/rod bearing and a Walbro fuel pump. If the clearance aren't good, I'll be buying LittleRocket's (member on spyderchat.com) bombproof block. All that work should be done by next spring and then HOP to MWR for another tune. We should be able to crank up the boost to 18psi on the Disco Potato, which, as per Matt of MWR, should be good for around 340whp.i'll keep you guys informed and will probably post a few pics as we go.

Definitely keep us updated.I have a friend that races stock cars on the weekend and builds them. He is supposed to be looking at my engine and tranny to see what he can do to give it a little more power and torque.
Bye Bye Vibe.............
