Trade in values

Post by Sputnik »

Does anyone know how closely dealers stick to the blue book (or black book) values for trade ins? Thinking of trading Sputnik (sniffle sniffle) and the Canadian Black Book estimated the value between 9 and 11K for it. I thought that was kind of high... along the same lines, what Canadians have traded theirs in and how much did you get for it?

I don't know about Canadians but I thought dealers mostly used the Black Book Value. I would imagine they would steer closer to $9k I priced mine a few time a while back and the blue book listed mine at around $10k - $11k (I think). I have a few miles on her tho

you deff. get more money selling it privately than to a dealer. they need to buy them cheap so they can mark them up and sell them...

It depends on if you are willing to wait until you've sold your car first. As for selling Sputnik, *tear* what would you think of replacing her with?

2008 Vue. Or wait for a 2009 Vibe... but that requires waiting and I'm getting an itch... I've got $1500 GM points I want to use - so it will be a GM (and yes the GM points work on Saturn - at least in Canada they do).

Unless the dealer is really screwing me over, its likely I will trade it in.

what the...people come back for a used car sale? hellz no. we sold our old windstar on carsoup.com it was smooth and got it sold fairly quick. if you sell it just state its as is, its the buyers responsibility to bring it to a mechanic to verify its mechanically sound...i wouldnt take crap from buyers...they have the choice

The car had 92k miles when I sold it and the extended warranty covered up to 100k miles. Still, at about 101k miles, they tried bothering me regarding a cooling line that had slipped off the radiator. They threatened to sue me, I offered them to attempt to and never heard anything again.A lawyer here at work reviewed the paper work I had drafted and stated I wouldn't be liable for any warranty work thanks to that bill of sale language. If you change your mind and decide to sell it privately, seek out some of this language. I probably still have the contract on my computer at home if you want.

Awesome! thanks for sharing that.

I'd probably push for the Mariner hybrid because of the number of included options for a "slightly" higher price (more bang for the buck, even if it is more buck).

Yes leaning towards the Hybrid. The hubby wants a hybrid - me, I don't care so much, although I suppose I should since I now use a vehicle to commute (and never did before June of this year).Honestly, I'm not sure I can wait for a new Vibe. I have $750 coupons from GM to use by Jan 2nd if I want to use them (and you get a $200 Visa giftcard if you do use them)...

Just a little snipit that my solve your hybrid choice The new Matrix has been set up to accept a hybrid system so that May transfer over to the Vibe as well as Pontiac does not have a Hybrid in thier stable. Then you could have all the Vibe has to offer plus Hybrid drive. I've sold every vehicle I've owned, out right and really never had any hassles doing it, well worth the extra 1000 - 2000 you get from private party sale. Don't be in a hurry to sell it. Just be set on what you want for it and what you'll take for it.
