Powered Subwoofers

Post by ~MRVIBE2006~ »

I have been looking at maybe getting a powered sub woofer to maybe cut down on the cost of having to buy an extra amp to power a bigger sub woofer. Any opinions? Should I steer clear of these? It would seem that this would be a good idea to cut down on cost and space. Also, I have decided to go with Crutchfield when I do order my stereo components. They DO have the best prices, bar none! Thanks again!

Here is my old post on my Bazooka install: http://forums.genvibe.com/zerothread?id=18348. I saved space and didn't have to drill any holes in the car. I've ordered a lot from Crutchfield in the past. Their prices aren't always the best actually, but they have excellent customer service, plus they provide all the needed parts and excellent instructions for all your installs.

Here's a powered sub that I was thinking of. It is an Infinity BaseLink II 10" sub with a 250 watt amp built in.Front view:Side view:With the mounting base it has, I figure that I could get a piece of wood and cover it with car carpet or something to use as a base.Opinions?

I would try to find a shop that has this sub in store to see if it sound ok for you, because you can't do any mod to the sub box or change the sub(hum maybe yes but not sure), to have the sound you want. It is sure that the amp can be adjust, but sometime it is not enought to have the sound you want. If the only thing you want is bass, and don't really mind of being able to adjust everything it's a good product for you.Lets see what other have to say about it.Hope that sublimewind see this post, because he looks good in sound system so maybe he can help you more than me!!!Anyway tell us what is our decision, and show us some pics of the sub install in the vibe.

I was actually looking at this before I bought my Sub. Sounded horrible (for the price), and it seemed very cheaply built. (plastic and whatnot). The option I went for was a slim truck box, a 10" sub, and mounted the amp right to the back of the sub box. I'll take some pictures when I get a chance if you'd care to see the setup. Fits just as well (if not better) than the basslink, and sounds waaaay better, and allows expandability if I choose to add another sub, etc.

I never thought of mounting the amp to the back of the speaker box. Sounds like a good idea ! Does the speaker box stay upright or is it constantly falling over? If not, how do you have it secured? Will definately like to see some pics on how you have it set up! Thanks for the suggestion!

I have it attached to the hooks used for the cargo area cover. I might use the rails in the cargo area to affix it there somehow.Just a sec, I'll run down and snap a pic.Shots of the sub in place: One of the amp and wiring on the box:And one of my joke of a secural method - it'll change when i get some days off. If you do go with this method, make sure the amp screws don't poke the sub!

Hey nice setup kunkstyle!!! The only thing I would have to say is take that red lastic off and fix your box with the rail. And how is the sound?

Thanks!Sound's good. Although I could have went one model up for the sub to get the dual voice coil, but I'm really happy with it. (Even though I had to disconnect the stock sub - sounded horrid with an actual sub next to it). What I actually might do for securing it is putting 2 eye hooks in the back of the box, and attaching that to the cargo area hooks. Might be a little cleaner, and wouldn't have to cut my cargo mat.

In this case, you better go with the eyes hook. What did you do with the stock sub case?
