is it possible to have malfunctioning fuel injectors and not know it ?car runs good ,has about 85,000 miles. only getting 17 mpg in the city with the a/c on. has automatic tranny and the 17 wheels. surely something is wrong besides the driver.
what year is your vibe? which model, GT or base or awd? 2003's had a issue with bad Cat converters that caused bad mileage along with a smell..sometimes.opps auto so not GT.
2003 base model, about 85,000 commuter miles.automatic tranny, has the 17 inch wheels ,we,re the 2nd owner. put it up on ramps and tapped the cat ,etc. no noises noticed.no rust, etc. car does have a problem= when you start it cold if you shift into gear you get some noises. i suspect it the belt tensioner assembly. but anyway you slice it 17 mpg in the city looks really low for this 1.8 .
Didn't you ask this question already? Something is not broken but something is out of tune. Check the spark plugs and run some good fuel injector cleaner. Or bring it in somewhere for a good tune-up.
Yeah, new plugs, new air filter, fresh oil and new oil filter. And TURN OFF YOUR A/C! I'm seeing a lot of people from the warmer climates with there a/c on and wondering why they have bad mpg's.Engines hate hot humid air, so hopefully when it cools off some you'll get better mpg's. Some people have tried resetting the ecu with better results.
