Ever since I've had this vehicle there's a constant noise from the passenger front near the airbag that makes a creaking noise over any bump at virtually all speeds, and ideas how to quell this? (I took it to the dealership for this and they claimed they took apart the dash and put back together, no fix)
for me it was an easy fix. The defroster vent in the front was the issue. The passenger side would rattle just like yours did. A piece of pipe foam cut fairly small is what I placed between the vent plastic and the dash. Tucked it in and no more rattle since.
i have a similar creaking noise but it is on the drivers side. is there anyway to pop the dash off? i have heard that you could do this and i was going to put some of the single sided sticky foam crap under there to try to stop the squeak...
'04 lava GTSRI, Progress rear sway bar, Infinity reference backs, components in the front, Infinity Kappa 124.7w sub, Alphasonik 600rms@2ohms for the sub, alpine head unit, worst paint ever!
I just spent a weekend eliminating the squeaks/rattles/clicks coming from the dash on my 2008 Vibe. The defroster vent was the last item I touched--it seems to "float" in the opening of the top of the dash. I had a sheet of cork (about 1/8" thick) leftover from another project, so I cut some pieces and wedged it between the vent and the dash. That took care of that one.For the other noises, I removed the A/C trim plate on the left side of the steering wheel and the center panel over the A/C controls. This allowed me to stick my arm into the dash in two areas. I drove to work and around town with my arm in the dash (probably not the safest thing to do, but it sure entertained some drivers) grabbing different components to locate the noises. I used quite a few zip ties to better secure some wires. I also found that the black vinyl shrink tubing used on some of the wires was making a "crinkling" noise when the cabin went from cold to warm in the morning. I removed that tubing and wrapped the wires with electrical tape. No more noise! As you can see, I am a bit sensitive about dash noises (my wife thinks I am hearing things, but between her and the pink elephant in the back seat who am I to believe? ). Nothing drives me more nuts than dash rattles. Of course, everyone has their own opinion of what is annoying, but his is my hot button. I find it hard to describe the sounds that bother me, so I just jump in there and find them myself. Take your time, isolate one noise at a time and you will end up with a quiet dash.
Thanks! That was a good write-up. I visualized all of those components as I felt my way around the inner workings of the dash, but never saw half of that stuff. Nice job!
Hi! I just got my Vibe yesterday! It's a 2003 with 77K miles... Salsa Dark Red. Love the horn! Love all the bells and whistles. I think it's going to be a fun car.I'm having the noise in the dashboard, too, but only when the air circulation button is not on. When it's on, the noise stops.So... I wonder how to get to it?I was going to change my cabin air filter. Will I have access to the noise-maker from there?
