Title pretty much says it all. A Truck flew by me during my morning commute and my windshield got hit by gravel. It took a small chunk of my window too. The chip is probably about 1/4 of an inch diameter and has 5 spider legs coming out of it.My question is thus: Is there a product I can get that can seal the crack or am I stuck with getting a new windshield?
I'm not sure about any kind of DIY kit but I know most body shops and windshield shops will "fill" it with a kit they have. It prevents the crack from spreading any further. I think it usually costs between $10-$20 and they usually charge about halve that for each additional chip.
Hi DrewzleX,There is a product from Prestone (i believe) which you should be able to buy from Auto-Zone or any other auto supply place. It is a resin patch kit for windows. I've had to use my kit several times for chips just like you mentioned. The best thing is to take care of it soon before moisture or dirt gets into the crack. I patched one chip on a family member's car and you can not even see it now. Just follow instructions on the package and you should be fine.Dave
Get used to it. The Vibe is a rock magnet. I've had 3 windshield replacements and 1 repair in 4 years of Vibe ownership. I usually wait until there is 3 or 4 different impact craters that start cracking and then get it fixed.
I agree...Vibes do attract rocks....I replaced my windshield twice ....fairly easy process though as the glass company just came out to the house and did the replacement in the driveway...of course paying for it was no fun....
