Sold my Vibe - What should I buy?

Post by eilros »

Well, I sold my Vibe today. Now I need to buy a new used vehicle that I'll drive for about a year until I get a Mazda5. What should I get? I don't want to spend more than $3000. It will be driven about 15 miles a day on average. I just need something reliable and easy on gas. I know an early-mid 90s Accord, Civic or Camry is a good option. Is there anything else I should look at?

i think the 3 cars you mentioned are very good, you might also wanna try a sentra, or pretty much anything w/ 4 or 6 cylinders. header's car sales always has stuff for cheap, here's a couple links for emhttp://www.headersauto.com/http://www.autotrad ... .=nulljust outta curiosity... why did you sell the vibe instead of waitin til you were ready to get the mazda, then trade it in??

Thanks for the info MRCN RCE. Does Headers have a pretty good reputation?I decided to sell now to save some money. I've only been driving the Vibe about 300 miles/month. Now I won't have a car payment, will only carry liability insurance, sold before the car depreciated anymore and made more than I would have gotten on a trade-in.

i knew a couple people that bought from them n didn't have a problem. they have a warranty that you can get, but i don't know anything about their warrantiesthere's another place right there on 20 a lil farther east, between bittersweet n county line road in osceola that has some good lookin cars there. i can't remember that place's name, but you can't miss it, it's on the south(right) side of the road if you're headed east toward elkhart. i don't know of anyone that bought cars from them tho... you might find a decent used one from jordan, gates, gurley leep, or another new car dealership, but the chances of seeing somethin for 3,000 or less would be slim. i just remembered... back in 99 and again in 2000, i got 2 nice used cars for a really good price up in michigan at Haggin Wimberley, which is actually the place where i found out about the vibe you might wanna check them outtheir address n phone number: 57333 M 51 South, Dowagiac, MI 49047(269) 782-5181hope this helps

For that price you're not likely to find anything too reliable. I wouldn't exclude any brand, just be sure to have a mechanic thoroughly check it out.

You may be able to find a Buick LeSabre. These cars have held up very well, and you would get a fantastic ride.

i got a 96 merc sable ls for 3 grand, had 113k miles, mechanic checked it out found no issue and I never had 1 problem with it until my sister totalled it at 139k miles. so the 3grand car range is there but i agree with above, have a mechanic check it. my mechanic just charges like 80-100 for doing a full look over on a car.

I'm still lost, there is something here I am missing. You had a Vibe, good reliable car. You sold it, so I'm assuming you either owned it or still owed on the loan which you either paid off or what not.Now your buying a used beater to get you around for a year till you buy another new car?Few questions:1) What was wrong with the Vibe?2) Did you have a loan on it still? If so what was the sell price vs. loan cost?3) If #1 was nothing, then why sell it instead of driving it for another year, then getting your new 5?Seems to me if nothing was wrong with it and you were not trying to sell it to pay off debts or something, you should have driven it till the loan was paid or until you were ready for the 5, then been able to put more money down on a 5. Sorry I was a salesman for Acura for a time and selling a newer reliable car for an older get me to work mobile as an inbetween, not seeing the logic.

I was going to say the same thing, Whelan. But to each his own. And maybe we should ask why you want a Mazda5? hehe.

Yeah, I'm totally not trying to be a **** here, just asking some logical questions as we did not get much of a story. The Mazda 5 aka Ford S-Max. I like the S-Max looks better, it has bigger fender flare bulge and no tall clear style Volvo wagon taillamps.

Ya, I hear ya. I actually like the looks of the Mazda5 but the sliding rear doors makes it impossible for me to even think about buying it. They are synonymous with vans.......can't do it.......even if I had 12 kids.

Whelan, I'll try to answer your questions.1) There wasn't anything wrong with my Vibe. It was in great shape with 43K miles.2) I still owed $7400 (payment of $226/mo) and sold it for $11300. I bought it in August 2005 for $12900.3) I was only driving it about 300 miles a month so I wasn't really getting much use out of it. My wife usually drives her 2000 Grand Prix to work and I'm a stay-at-home dad so I don't drive much at all. Based on the value of the 2003 compared to the 2004, it would probably depreciate another $1500 or so by the time I decided to sell next year. Now I won't have to make any payments and can just carry liability insurance on whatever I buy. I know it's a gamble to get an older car with higher mileage but I'm hedging the bet by looking for something with a reputation as a very dependable car. I'm looking at a 1994 Integra GS-R sedan that I can get for $2K. I figure I can drive that for a year and probably still sell it to some kid for $1500.Hopefully this makes sense to you. It does in my mind but I don't know if that's a good thing or not!

For those guys that aren't married: If the wife ain't happy, ain't nobody happy.2) It's much smaller than other minivans and doesn't drive like a typical minivan. It's actually quite Vibe-like.3) Sliding doors. I'm way past the cool stage and into the convenience stage of my life. Sliding doors are a beautiful thing when you have kids.4) The wife wants a minivan.5) The Mazda5 is fairly inexpensive when compared to other minivans.6) The wife wants a minivan.

It's a one owner vehicle and has been well maintained. The exterior does show its age and has some of the typical Honda/Acura wheel well rust. It seems to be a pretty decent deal.

I'm shocked you found a stock GS-R, he must want it gone fairly bad, cause you would never find one that cheap around here regardless of mileage. My brother leased an 07 Honda Odyssey, nice van I must say, and ***loads of room.I guess the only competitor to the smaller car like 5 would be something like the Ford Freestyle. But even that is SUV like.

If I do buy the GS-R, I'll post some pics if I remember.

if you dont get that gs-r I think well laugh at you haha jk. dude you could buy it and sell it on ebay for like a crazy price. There are some people who would pay insane amounts of money for a gs-r, not me as im not a honda fan, but those are like the ricers most wanted car. I say get it for your self and mod it to your liking, they are a quick little car.Ah the van...yes keep the wife happy i agree...although i dont have one yet :/ I will write that down for later though

I picked up the GS-R yesterday for $2,000. The interior is in great shape considering the age. The wheel wells have the typical Honda/Acura rust and the clear coat is peeling on the the hood, roof and trunk. I'm going to Klasse it when the weather gets better and see what that does. I'll post a few pics as soon as it stops raining.

So far, so good. It drives nice and seems to be strong mechanically. I do need to replace a few parts but nothing major (bushing, shock). Here are a few pics:After Klasse AIO and Sealant Glaze:The interior is in great shape (I haven't detailed it yet - this is how I bought it):Typical Acura/Honda rust:Flaking clear coat:
