Problem with some burned CDs

I own a 2005 AWD Vibe, with the 7 speaker option. Up until recently I have had no issue at all with burning CDs and listening to them. The other day I ran out of CDs, so I used a new stack. When I put it into the stereo I got this wrenching noise and then the cd played but skipped constantly (I was not moving at the time.) I have tried 3 different brands so far: Memorex, Fujifilm, and Imation. They all do the same thing. My old Memorex branded CDs still work fine. ANyone have a suggestion or solution?

did you try a real cd, not burned?

sometimes the thickness of the CDR's can be different, and this could be causeing your issue. I'm not sure what's good to go with, and not sure if this is your problem, but I have heard of it.

Normal CDs work fine. As do my old Memorex burned CDs. I guess I could try yet another brand and see what happens.

Sorry man, I wish I could help you out more, but I just haven't had that problem yet...(I can't remember what brand I use, I think they are the memorex.)

cd-rw's do NOT workcd-r's should work. Buy a quality brand media like tdk or tiayo yuden and they should work flawlessly

See thats the thing. My old ones are memorex. When I ran out I grabbed a bunch of Fujifilm from work and they have that problem. Tried Imations, same problem. Went to the store bought new Memorex CD-Rs and they still have the problem. Yet my older burned CDs still work fine. Mostly its just been a waste of CDs at this point. I will head to the store and get a different brand and see what happens.

they have all been CD-R. I never use CD-RWs. I will try those brands you mentioned and see what happens. Thank you

I find newer cd-r's are just crap, Tiayo Yuden is a japanese company i think, they use one of the highest quality if not the best dye in their media in the world. I will only buy their stuff now, dvd-r and cd-r.My old memorex cd's would just fall apart, thats funny your still work hahha. Hmmm try buring your cd's slow too, like at 2x maybe 4x see if that helps. OR try burning with a different cd burner, let me know how that works.

I had this problem once. Yea, definitely slow down the burn rate.

I have tried burning them on different burners even at 1x and while it helps a little, the tracks still skip and that wrenching noise still happens when I first insert the CD.

what program do you use to burn the cd?

I have tried using iTunes (on both Mac and PC), Sonic RecordNow, and CDBurnerXP Pro on my PC.

on the mac did you have it verify the cd?I use Nero on my windows box.. have you tried the cd in a different cd player to make sure it isnt the cd? Sometimes lasers in cd players can be finicky or get dirty. Like my ps2 and xbox, ive had to tweak the pots on the laser because they stopped picking up cd or dvd's....mmmm electronics

The CDs work great in my computers and even my wifes car cd player. I think by default iTunes verifies CDs. I know I didn't turn it off. I have tried different speeds for each recorder to test them. I am starting to feel that my Vibe stereo is just finicky and I just need to find a better brand of CD.

its hard to clean that type of stereo as well since its a slot load. If you have or can get a cheap cd cleanding kit, it should have a cd with cleaner hair things on it that brush the lense. Try that as some dust on a laser lens can cause goofy issues. Is your car still under warranty?

Yes still under warranty. I guess I could get the stereo replaced, but going to the dealer is as much fun as hammering my hand.

I'm going to blame GM on this one. I had the same problem when I test drove mine (at which point I got the dealer to install my aftermarket HU at no charge), and I've had the problem on a GMC Sierra. Maxell is the ONLY current cd that I ever got to work in the Vibe stereo (old memorexes did work though) and I have yet to find anything that works on the Sierra. As far as warranty, I'd just as soon put in an aftermarket HU, but that's just my opinion.

Bummer. I will try Maxell cds too and see if that helps. I dont mind having to buy a certain brand as long as they work. Also dont have the money to buy a new headunit. Hopefully this works out. Thank you all for your help!

if it still doesnt work with diff brand cd's, have it replaced under warranty. no one wants to steal a stock HU so its almost like a thief keep awayer

My last car I had put in a nice new headunit, but I actually like the Vibe's stock headunit. I will try a few more brands before resorting to warranty support. Thanks again!

Maxell CD-R Pro. They work great! I cannot believe that the stereo is really that picky, but whatever works is fine by me.

You can get a bad batch of cd's every once in a while. I had issues with that a long while ago. then I bought a mp3 player so i wouldn't have to screw around with cd's anymore. Could be the burner itself or the burning software, if you have a really old burner the laser might dirty or just plain going out on you. Could be all sorts of things. Slow down the burning speed and buy a CD/DVD lens cleaner for your burner and see if that helps. If not you may wnat ot consider buying a FM transmitter and a mp3 player.

As I mentioned above, I tried 3 different brands of CD-Rs, using 4 different burners with all different speeds. I hate to say it, but its the brand of CD-R in this case that was the problem.

Geez lol talk about picky Must of been the dye type used. Maxwell seems to use a good dye in their cd's.
