Help, anybody know what this is?

Post by damronjr »

Anybody know what the small clip with the green wire near the shift display at the bottom of the pic attached to the harness that goes into the lighter and home power adapter is? Right now my dome light, door blinker, and reading lamps don't work, so I think this might have something to do with it, but as you can see, I took my dash completely apart and couldn't find where this connector hooks up in the car.

It's green, right? The positive voltage for instrument panel illumination is a green wire, although I can't remember if it had a stripe or not. Check to see if that wire matches color with one of the other switches that light up (such as rear defrost or hazard.) If it is lighting, it doesn't go into the inverter does it? Or clip to the other side of the lighter socket for the LED that lights the ring? Or go to your electric supercharger like northvibe said?

Is there a light done there?I couldn;t find it in the Factory Service Manual.Thelight would need both a positive and negative, so I really don't know. Sorry.

Yes, the one circled is the 1 I am referring to. It has 2 wires, 1 green, the other white. As far as I know everything on the car has seemed to work so far minus what I listed above. I looked all over behind the dash in that area (the wires are short, so it can't go far either) but couldn't find any open plugs missing clips. It is kind of hard to see back in there though. It doesn't go into the invertor or lighter, 1 single harness goes into that area for both of those, and that opening on the back of that area that looks like a plug is not, it's just a plastic opening with no terminals or anything. All the dash lights are working fine as well. I am thinking MAYBE it was something for the radio, but it looks to be coming from a stock harness like it was there from the factory.

I believe it activates the AC compressor when you engage either defrost mode.

The off-white funky shaped plug goes to the cig lighter as you can see in the pic. Are you saying yours is just dangling back there, too? If so, then why the hell is all my **** jacked up right now?!?!?

I'd say it is not the cigarette lighter power, but it is the cigarette lighter backlight illumination power. But I'd have to take mine apart to be sure.In ragingfish's write up of how to remove that center console http://forums.genvibe.com/zerothread?id=5940 he posted this picture:did you check your dome fuse?

Looks like it's time to take the dash apart again! But if that is the case, I'm wondering why everything else is screwed up! Could the problems all be tied into the radio somehow?!? Guess I won't know until I get it installed!

I don't think any other problems could be attributed to that wiring being disconnected. All that thing does is provides power for only the lighting for the cigarette lighter, nothing else really cares whether it is connected or not. The only negative not having that connected would be that you won't have that nice backlit ring around the lighter at night.

There were no adapters on the cig lighter that weren't used, and none anywhere else I could find. My bro-in-law thinks it was never used. Kind of hard to believe, but if someone does know where it goes (MIKE - aka RAGINGFISH!) fell free to let me know and post some pics!

Did that green ring around the lighter ever light up.Because when I installed my gauges,I tapped into that connector so the gauges were controlled by the dimmer.

Damron, does your lighter have the flip-down cover thingy on it and it didn't come with the actual cigarette lighter piece? If you just got the power outlet and not the lighter, I can see them still using the same wiring harness to save costs. So the wire could have been hanging out all this time being unused...

Colonel is right,I have the smokers package with that connector used to power that Halo around the cig lighter. So,you don't have to worry about that connector then,it's not used.

Hey everyone... I JUST noticed that my cigarette lighter ring is lit up. I'm not sure its ever been lit up before. (Could be that I never noticed?) I do not have a cigarette lighter attachment (its just a hole!) and was wondering if the ring lit up around it is supposed to be lit up or if by chance something was pushed in there to activate it. A response would be much appreciated!!!!
