Hi all,Just got done with another round of minor work on the new Subie... I had a rear wheel bearing (comon for the 96-01') going out on me and a CV boot was torn so i replaced the axle shaft as well... Just wanted to show a few shots of things... The Vibe included... First we have the line up... Old, New and the DD...Garage day at Aaron's house...Like the new plate??No shots of the actual wheel bearing replacement, it a press fit, meaning you MUST have a press to do the jerb. My girlfriend and her dad are in really well with one of the local parts houses and i got to do the work there on thier 100 ton hydrolic press..!!! Got the job done in under 2hr, rather than the 4 it took me the last time i did a wheel bearing on a manual press..!! I got a shot of the NAPA CV axle shaft... it's a REALLY nice looking piece.. lifetime warrentee....I pulled the sway bars off both the old and the new subie... the NEW Subie had the STOCK rear sway bar on it (with a WRX front bar installed, previously) and my Subie had a 24mm adjustable Whiteline SB, so they were gettin swapped... Check out the difference...It couldn't go on the new car without being cleaned up and painted...I also did the solid endlinks, stock Subaru sway bar endlinks are made of PLASTIC...You can see this in the FIRST swaybar pic... CRAZY SubaruAnd on the car... !!In 2 days, i spen most of my time in the garage... I did the wheel bearing and axle shaft on saturday, then on Sunday, my brothers car was SUPPOSED to get an axle shaft as well, he got the wrong one, so we did a brake job on that front corner reguardless... I was going to put a stock exhaust system i had lieing around on for him, but, we didn't have any bolts to replace the ones that would have shurly broken when taking them off... We ended up putting on new brake shoes in the rear of his car... which took 3hrs to do one side (not knowing exactly how they cam apart) and 15min to do the other side (the learning curve is steep for us)I also did a oil change on my moms Subaru Forester... Then i started in on the front of my car, making adjustments to the coilovers. They needed to be raised up, Subies simply don't handle as well, as low as it had been.... So, yeah, i'm a pic (removed).... I think most of you knew that already though... lolCheers,Aaron

Looks good, but whats with the light blue on the hood and bumper. Are you in the middle of having those pieces repainted from chips and scratches or is that some kind of protective cover thing?

Whelan,Like the others said, it's "travel tape" or poor mans rock blocker.... lolI haven't had a chance to peel it from the trip to Detroit i took last week... Well, i "have" had time, i just haven't..... I live in the land of dirt roads and am constantly worried about the paint now...
Mavrik,Now that i have your attention, i wanted to talk about suspension set up... As you know now, i have a WRX front bar, a Whiteline 24mm adjustable rear bar... I also have D2 coilovers w/Cusco camber plates front/rear...I also went through recently (well, working on the front still) and made adjustments to the coilovers to raise them AND to get them the same.... I found the passenger rear was lower than the drivers rear by about 20mm (using the metric system is easier for this) or more... so i measured and adjusted both rears to be the same... I am following suit in the front, when i find the time to finish it... I also ran the spring adjustment collors down to the point where there wasn't ANY pre-load on the springs, they are now just holding the spring at full extension... Is this the proper thing to do, OR do i WANT some preload on the springs? Thoughts?
I know that your're worried about the paint because of dirt roads, but you have to take it off. To me, a few hardly noticable chips look better than a bra or travel tape. I saw a guy with a Ferrari that had a bra the other day and it looked so stupid. You've got to enjoy the car and not worry about small things. The whole point is to drive it, in my opinion.
Well my friend Dale usually sets the height adjustment while on the alignment rack. Its level and the car sits with all its weight on the wheels.I would advise some pre-load on the coils. If they are at full extension now, what happens when you lift the car up? or going over bumps. I know those are pretty stiff but I like a little pre-load just to be safe.

Travel tape, lol. You should have just bought that clear spray on covering that lasts for a trip. Now I gotta look at two Damronjr's. I guess it's official that his blue bumper is finally catching on and becoming, dare I say it, appealing.Funny thing from those pictures it looks the same exact color as his too.

It's comming off tonight, and i'll get some proper pics up...

I know those are pretty stiff but I like a little pre-load just to be safe. There is plenty of compression on the springs to hold them in place, they are at full extension while in the air (jacked up) there just tight enough to keep'em in place, but, not tight enough to start to compress the spring... "now" they WERE a LOT different when i started... As soon as i can get a hold of the guy, i'll be going to this guy recomended to me by some of the NASIOC locals, he does alignments out of his garage and MANY use him... I guess he let's you help with the process and teaches you along the way. He also does corner weighting, so i'll be able to balance the ride properly... I just wish i knew the spring rates for the spring, they have to be more than i need...
