Considering buying another Vibe....

Post by 18stars »

I don't post much but I frequent this site a lot and have found a wealth of info and good opinions here.....I'm hoping I can get some thoughts on a dilemma....I have a 2004 Vibe with 94,000 miles on it....its been well maintained and has been a excellent car....the only "major" problem was the driver's side window situation that many have encountered..... in fact I've compared it to all the cars out there and decided that if I was buying a car again that its still what I would buy..since I drive a bit and am not mechanically inclined I've generally traded my cars in at about this point.....which brings me to the point - I am seriously considering trading it in on a new Vibe....does anyone have any pros or cons to throw out there? Thanks!

2008 is the last year for the same design, good if you want to keep what you're used to. 2009 will see a completely new makeover if you want to wait for the replacement. Should be available mid-2008.From what has been posted it appears the 09 will be a pretty thorough make over. Who knows if it will even be what you want. I get the sense it will be more sporty and less family mini-wagon. But, if you can hold off until after Christmas there may be more info out.Consider that this car should be good for an easy 200,000 miles with normal upkeep and repairs. But, if you're more comfortable bailing at 100k with the usage you have I understand it. Tough decision!

As VivaV suggested, I'd wait until you know enough about the '09 models to be certain whether you'd prefer the current or the new style. And if I were inclined to trade in vehicles after 5 years or less then I would probably have gotten a Matrix instead of a Vibe based on the resale value projections (at least in my area).

From what has been posted here it looks like the 2009's might be here in Spring of 2008. My prediction is that things like ABS, side air bags and stability control will be standard at little or no added cost. At that time the 2008's ought to be deeply discounted if you prefer that to the 2009's. That's my game plan.

it' good to see you're that happy with the vibe. i am too we've got several members here that have 6 digits on their odometers, so i wouldn't worry about waitin til the new one comes out to trade it in for an 08 or 09. like jake75 said, the 08's should be pretty cheap compared to what they are now. i'd wait

We are on our second Vibe. Our first one was a Fusion '04 as well. I am sure we would still be driving it if it hadn't been written off in an accident. The way the car stood up in the crash was a major factor in buying another. My wife lost control in heavy rain, hit a rock wall and rolled several times. She and my daughter only received minor cuts and bruises. You will not get much for yours on a sale or trade-in so I would be inclined to keep driving it until major mechanical problems occur. There's a member who uses them in his taxi fleet and has over 190,000 miles with very few issues.

Thanks for everyone's opinion...I got a decent deal on a 2007 Stealth Two Tone and the value of my 2004 was higher than I expected so it looks like I'll be getting a new one....its been one of the best cars I've ever owned for practicality, reliabilty etc.....I considered waiting but I figure I'd make the move now and in a few years we'll take another look at the revamped Vibe.....

Woo-hoo! You made a good choice, as you don't even know if waiting will be worth it.
