headlight lens care & cleaning

Post by MRCN RCE »

i need a lil assistance here. i live in the desert, and my headlights have been sandblasted several times. they feel rough when you run your hand over em and they're losing their clarity. i have a bottle of meguiar's plastx, and use it with the mother's polishing ball. it works pretty good, but i'm looking for somethin that'll help restore em to almost new. they're startin to look like they've run through hell with gasoline drawers whelan: your headlight lenses (and of course, the rest of your trix) look like they just came out of the factory. what do you use??

Sand em.Wet sand with 1000 lightly then 2000 lightly, then use the plastX on the wheel and work it in good. The issue is your divets and chunks are deeper than a scrape or swirl so you need to get to a base.

LOL, thanks for the honorable mention Wave.MRCN, I would pull them off if you had the time, it will be easier for sure. If you want some more advice on this and your not too comfortable sanding your headlights (remember wet sand), go to http://www.meguiarsonline.com and check out the plastic detailing section.I still spend plenty of time with the lady, she is coming over in a bit so we can wash the cars quick. I am taking a day off of work coming up soon to detail the car for the winter season. Oh and I was in Cali with her for the first time in our lives in April. We took a week off and headed over to visit a friend who lived in SF. Worked out well cause we didn't have to get a hotel and had someone who knew the area. I'm surprised I never met up with anyone from BAM (Bay Area Matrix) club. Oh well, I was on foot most the week so I guess that could be why.

Good call Wave, I would also get a bucket, actually two buckets. I had one for the sandpaper to drench it, and another with a rag in clean water to wipe it down every so often to clean it off. Seriously no need to change this forum although I do like the idea, lol. Other people have great ideas and new product I've never heard of as well. I'm not the end all be all, but I've done plenty of detailing and care stuff to know a thing or two to help out, that's the purpose of these forums anyways, right!
