Is it possible without a hydraulic press? I've done rear ones before on older VW's with a few round pieces of soft metal that I machined into drifts (copper, brass) and banged everything in and out carefully with a BFH. I've never done front bearings without a press, but the guy I knew that had the press, has moved, so I'm on my own. The local shop wants $35/spindle for bearing pressing, which I think is outrageous. Anyone do this on their own and know what it should cost? Also, I'm going to need an alignment, right?
BFH? I only have a BAH I have pressed bearing in place using a BA Vise, but it was a long time ago, never tried it on a Toyota based car.Attached the PDF associated with the front hub, has some pics, some descxriptions of how to dis and re assemble, might be of some use
Interesting. Looks like one of their SST's is a slide hammer. I didn't know the hub assembly came off the spindle so easily. I may just take it apart and do an "exploratory" like doctor's say, just to see what I'm getting into. I have a welder so I can make some simple tools with it out of steel if need be..but it'll definitely take some time. I'm also ASSuming that when I get the bearings delivered, it'll make sense as I can actually look at them. The only FWB's I've done (that's front wheel bearings, not friends with benefits) were on a Jetta VR6 and those were sealed units.
