Can't wait. My fience's cousins have a lake house right on the water there. We are about 20-30 minutes West of Saratoga. Another 20-30 away from Lake George. It's such a beautiful area. I'll be sure to snap some good pics of me and her and get some of the lake house and such. I love being up there. We have 40+ people for a family reunion of hers, going to pickup her uncle from Arizona at the the airport tomorrow. 3 houses (all neighbors they grew up with). Good times for all. Oh and cause I'm engaged now, we get our own bedroom, talk about moving up from the kids table, lol!Enjoy your weekend everyone, I know I will, we are taking her Liberty Renegade with the lightbar which will come in handy up there at night.Cheers!
Have fun man, but don't plan on any boating. The lake is really low and most everybody pulled their boats out 3 weeks ago. It's still beautiful up there but a little less water. If you're coming home on Sunday, you're welcome to come over and watch the Giants game. I live 1/2 mile from exit 25 on the Thruway.
He's right - the lake is almost empty - but still pretty. i spent ewery weekend up there from Memorial Day to Labor Day - awesome place, and pretty good fishing. We have a 25 lb., 49" Northern Pike mounted in the garage that was caught by my Uncle up there.Too bad you didn't do it a month ago, when the water was warmer.
I'm still bringin my shorty wetsuit just in case. I really wanted to swim to the island that is right across from where we are. The house is in the town of North Broadalbin and it sits directly across from an island my dad used to camp on as a kid. Funny how years later his son is up there a mile from where he was. When the lake is high enough its just around a mile to the island, and I wanted to swim there and back with one of her family following me in a kayak or something. Should be a bit chilly up there this weekend so I'll be packing the hoodies. 25 off of 87 I assume? Not sure how high up that is, but we typically come up 25 in CT, get on 84W and once we cross the border we jump on the Taconic Parkway instead of 87, much prettier ride that way. Then connect with 87 right near Albany and at somepoint we swap highways and get off on Route 33 in Amsterdam to get there. One thing I love about Sacandaga is it's like going back in time, between the ice cream shack down the road and the little touristy, lake area stuff. It's like flashbacks. Anyways, I'll take plenty of pictures. Oh, and how low would you say the lake is right now. Typically the cross bridge in the middle is about I'd say 20-30ft. from the waterline. Any estimate?
I'm at exit 25 off I-90, you pass it on your way to Amsterdam (exit 27). I'm not sure where the water line is at, haven't been up there since July. It's got to be real low if everybody pulled their boats out before Labor Day.
Aah ok now I remember, 90 is that other piece I get on. Yeah your pretty close, come stop up one afternoon if you like, I don't think we can stop by for a game, though I'd love to watch the Giants, I'll have to listen on the radio cause the fience needs to get back for school on Monday.Cold to swim? Never haha. I did that Penguin thing when I was at URI so I love it. Not to mention when you swim in High School (yeah it was years ago), the pools are like set to 67 degrees or sometimes less. Keeps you awake and less fatigued. I am looking forward to freezing a bit to wake me up from my drunken stupors in the morning.
I think you want Exit 27 - Amsterdam, and then take Rt. 30N to Broadalbin. Sounds like you're talking about Sand island. You might be able to walk there this weekend - if the water is low enough ! LOLThe weather is supposed to be a bit cool this weekend, but a cool day at the lake is better than a warm day at work.
Yeah we get off 27 Amsterdam and drive by that big supermarket plaza. I went into the liquor store there looking for beer my first time up, silly me. They sell beer in the store.Anyways, yeah it's just passed Broadalbin where you go through that really small town area with a statue in the middle of the road, where the speed limit is 25, and god help you if you do 27. Sand Island is the place. I'll get plenty of pics to throw up come Monday. 3 more hours of work then just pack and wait for the fience to get out, then we can roadtrip in the Jeep.
