home theater systems??? Need advice

I am in the market for a new system.It's been some time since my last system. 2.1 surround sound... Yep I rocked HAHA.anyways,I was looking at a bose 3-2-1 system till I found out how much that system costs but I did find something cheaper and apparently just as good.What I was looking for from you guys is what are you rocking. 5.1? 7.1? 1080I?I came across this at CC. http://www.circuitcity.com/ssm...il.doIt gets great reviews. I like the symplistic idea behind it. I am not too sure though.I do have limitations. And they are1)Under 5002)The physical size of the unit can not be any deeper than 15 1/2 inches. 3)I am looking to be able to play my DVD rw's in it. 4)Wireless rear speakers would be nice but not nessary.

DO NOT buy a bose system.If you are just looking for a home theater in a box. I would go with Sony, Pioneer, or Philips. 5.1 is the best value, 7.1 is really over the top with an in the box.I installed custom home theaters for 2 years. Every so often I would install an in the box, but most of the time it was all custom. I did alot of B&W speakers and Pioneer recievers. I remember one house I did where a pair of B&W speakers cost $250,000.

First off 80% of the cost of BOSE is the "B," "O," "S," & "E."HTIB (Home Theater In Box) are ok if you like all in one units.I think you could do better with your money by buying each componet seperate.5.1 systems are fine not much is more than that anyway.Brands to look at: Harmon/Kardon, Onkyo, Panasonic, there are others but these are my top 3.Brands to avoid: Sony, BOSE, Phillips, or any off brand.hope this helps

That's odd because my Sony pumps.Haven't had a problem with Sony.I think you pay for the Harmon/Kardon name also.But you are right in the fact you get better if you buy it separately.

It's not a bad setup for an all in one system. I looked at all the systems CC had listed and I think the JVC is a better deal for the money at $319.00. At least you get a full size sub and 5 speakers. http://www.circuitcity.com/ssm...#tabs I can vouch for JVC reliability too. I still have my first JVC receiver (14yrs old) hooked up in the basement and it still thumps. I'd consider Sony too, a little more expensive, but good quality.

go to ebay and get the fluance system. sounds awesome, they are built really really well, and the best part is that they don't cost an arm and a leg. course you'd still need to shop around for a powered sub and a 5.1 receiver. i got my harmon/kardon receiver on ebay cheaper than i got the speakers. and btw, the fluance tower speakers put out a good amount of bass, so i don't even have a sub at the moment (though i'd like one)

The sony system I have now works great, only problem is it don't fit in to my brand new entertainment center... LOL with out cutting out the back of the entertainment center. Thats my excuse anyways... I really just wanted a brand new 5.1 system.I will miss my current system though, it holds 51 cd's at once. Anyone else have suggestions?? I have decided not to get the system in my first post. I am leaning more towards a nice receiver that I can add on components to. In addition to the sony 2.1 I also have a nice Technics system that the receiver just doesn't support the 5.1. It' already has everything else though, right down to the turntables LOL

I think i need to clarify my position on sony. Its not that they are a bad product I think there is just way better for the same amount of money. More Watts is not always better its More Current the Better.Or in more practical terms the heavier the unit the better. My brother was looking at a Sony HTIB and i convinced him on a seperate HK and Infinity package that was the same price as the Sony he was looking at. That system kicks Sony's rear.Sony does make good stuff its just there is better for the same money.

Alot of people worry about using too many remotes when they get a system. If you are gonna go with one of the two. I would choose the first one. It allows you to do all your video switching from one area. So you only use one imput on your tv, and run all equipment to the reciever.

Well, having just purchased a new receiver (Yamaha RX-V2500) and a semi-audiophile, I hope I qualify enough to answer.I think that if you're settled on getting a HTIB system, the Onkyo HT-S894 is the way to go. Definitely has better output power/THD numbers than the Kenwood units you referenced.You might want to go to http://www.audioreview.com and browse some of the user reviews out there as well. Also, keep your eyes on eBay; you might find a deal there. I mean, the Nautilus speakers are only $40,000 a pair...
