Will the Vibe run without the gauge cluster

Post by kevera »

I'm thinking of getting LED mod done to my gauges.I was wondering if I could still drive the Vibe without the cluster. And,please don't post up and say it's dangerous or stupid ,I just want to know if I can still use the Vibe.

Can't imagine why not, except for it being Quote »dangerous or stupid....lolerskates.... Pull it and try, see if it starts... what can it hurt, unless it is set up to burn the car to the ground if you DO....

you can if you must. Obviously you would want to minimize your clusterless drive time, for various safety reasons.

I don't know for sure... I just thought it was in the cluster b/c of all the cluster swapping threads...

Never mind, not sure where I got that from, can/'t find anything to support my theory on here.Probably is in the cluster.

Kev, I don't have a clue about the Vibe running without the instrument cluster, but............................a '92 Chevy C1500 P/U absolutely, positively will NOT run without the cluster. That helps you out a whole bunch, doesn't it. LOL

I know on the Lexus LS400 (at least the older ones) the car will function without the cluster, but it will set off a code for the airbag light. Once the cluster is back in the code has to be cleared to get the light off.

None. Vibe is gone.

The functionality of the air bag indicator itself is monitored and will set a code if a fault is detected, which having no indicator present at all surely would be. Whether that would have any other impact on the SRS stuff should the unthinkable occur when the cluster is disconnected, I couldn't tell ya. If it does throw a code, yup - will have to be cleared out by the proper scan tool.Raging, it's definitely in the cluster since Joatmon had to do a few tricks to get his '04 cluster up to the right mileage his '03 cluster was showing. Pretty sure that actual GM stuff saves the mileage in the PCM.

I could drive with Scanguage replacing all the instruments. Need to know speed, like to know revs and temps. That otta do it. If you know your speed and can keep track of where your blinkers are at, it's reasonable to me that it could be driven without endangering others. On a temporary as-needed basis, methinks.

I haven't tried it yet.I can't get a hold of the guy from LEDMODS.So,I was going to do it next week while I'm off work, but I don't think it will work out now.I'm kind of disappointed about not getting it done, but that means I'll spend the money on something else for the Vibe.

Well my speedometer is off by 45,000 and some miles and it doesn't bother me at all so I don't think 25km would affect you too much mate What kind of LED mod did you have in mind? Have any pictures of any that are done on a different car perhaps so I can get an idea what you're talking about?
