My pops has Prostrate Cancer....... He has got about 6 weeks to get things taken care of or he gets full on highly invasive surgery...He seems to be taking it quite well, i can tell he's a bit scared though... He's the type that nothing bothers him.... His options as of now are, Cryo surgery, where they go and freeze it out, which is what he'll most likely opt for... Radiation seeding, where they implant radioactive "seeds" or metal pieces and they do their thing, or surgery. Cemo is out, because they can't target it effectively enough (thank god) and beam radiation is a final possibility, but they say it does a lot of damage, considering the area... I'm trying hard not to worry about it, but, it's difficult... so many things are happening all at once..... The prognosis seems promising though.... only time will tell....
Typically when they find it early enough they can clear it up. Sorry to hear man. Cancer is never an easy thing to deal with. Take the day off and go hang out with him. You'll feel better.
Sorry to hear. My dad had prostate cancer last year. He had the invasive surgery to get it taken care of asap. It took him a few months to get back to his old self but he is doing great now.

My uncle is undergoing treatment right now for prostate cancer. There are many effective ways to treat it now. I'll say a prayer for your dad and family. Also, as much as it sucks, all of us men need regular prostate exams...

Yeah, thank you everyone... I know how common it is these days, i guess that is why he's being to nonchalont (sp?) about it... Whelan, i've thought about taking the day off, but this isn't going to change anything with him...Heck, he had back surgery and was putting up hay in the barn a week after..... Billygoat comes to mind, hard head and stinkin @$$.....
Oh, I'm SO sorry to hear, Sub. My Dad too had it, and like others have said, if it gets caught soon enough, prostate is one of the easier ones to treat. My dad had it also, and went through just about every treatment--even some experimental ones--because he didn't want chemo. Unfortunately for him, they didn't catch it early enough, and it had started to spread into the bones. I agree with Whelan. While you are right that it won't help him physically to take the time off to see him, it will help you both mentally. I remember one weekend, it was my only day off in like two weeks, and I REALLY wanted to hang out. Dad called, and asked if I'd drive down to Sioux City, get some stuff for his fish tank, and bring it to him. I really didn't want to, but I did, and I am SO glad I did. He died a week later. I'm not saying that is going to happen to YOUR dad, but it's times like this that make you realize how important spending time is.

I spend a lot of time at my parents house... I feel like one of the 3 sons that spends the most time there and we are all within 3mi of each other... I typically spend much of my weekends helping them with various things... I might aughta go out fishing with him though... that is his BIG thing and i usually could care less... Thank you for sharing your experience, sorry about your dad though... As bad as it may be, my father and all of us sons are "realists" we all understand that we are going to die one day and as scary as it might be, we understand that there is only so much that we can do and only so much that we will take... My father will NOT spend any time stuck in a hospital ward withering away... He would opt to spend his time doing the things he loves and end it sooner.... it's just how the "man" side of our family is.... Again, thank you all for youe thoughts... It really means a lot to me...
sorry to hear about your dad. cancer is all to common these days Im sure he'll do great since they caught soon. Hey good idea on the fishing, I'm sure he will really enjoy the time with you. Fishing can be super relaxing even if you dont catch anything and it will give a chance to just hang out and guy talk
I think events like this make you appreciate the important people in your life.Enjoy each day with the people who you are closest with, because you never know when it could be the last.

Cancer does not discriminate. Since I am considered to be a "high-risk" pregnancy case, when I have my Pre-C exam next month, since I'm probably going to have extensive labwork anyway, I will have one done then.
Well, people, i got some better news today...My dad went in for his surgery, if you could call it that. He had half of his prostrate FROZEN with liquid N2 in a cryo therepy... We thought it would be an overnight stay, but, he was home before i got out of work..!!!!!!!!!He is doing VERY well, walking (a must) in very good spirits.... Now it is a matter of time to see if his PSA numbers drop off... We should know better in 6-8 weeks, i think i herd last night... So, as of right now, all it well.... Thank you all for the kind words of support... Cheers,Aaron
