Satelite Radio (XM or Sirius) on Stock '07 Single CD HU?

Post by johnnyi »

Just purchased my vibe two weeks ago...noticed in the manual it states the stock head unit supports XM through the Band Button. However, I don't see many people on here that have kept there factory head unit in combination with XM. However there is no info on the GM Site.Crutchfield has a Sirius GM Unit to connect directly to stock head unit - has any tried this one?I really dont want to replace the head unit just for satelite radio and I have never had any luck with FM Transmitters. Can I use one of the seperate all in one units and hardware in the aux port? Thanks,John

Spoke with the dealer today, they said that XM was only possible on the 6 Disc Changer and not available as an aftermarket option...I really find it hard to believe as the manual stats if you have a band button, you can do it..The accessory from the dealer with install ran close to $400, if I had the correct HU. Guess I will wait to see if the Sirius GM Adapter gets an update to surrport the HU I have.- John

They cannot add "factory" XM outside the factory. Even if the radio supports it, there are too many other components and wires that would need to be installed to integrate the feature. Similar to how OnStar cannot be added outside the factory.
YES!I still visit GenVibe periodically. I have not forgotten about my "original" family over here!

Factory installed XM module is located in the passengers side rear wheel well. Whether they actually ran a harness or not is a different question. You can purchase the GM XM receiver from service parts for other vehicles...however none listed for the vibe.Terk offers a smart digital connector box for GM to be used in conjunction with the universal xm receiver but it is only certified through the 05' Vibe. Price ranges from ~125 to ~200 for the smart digital connector and universal receiver. I own a universal receiver but really don't want to dish out ~100 for a digital connector box if it is not going to work. On the Matrix forum, there has been mixed success with the Sirius GM kit. There is supposed to be an updated kit released soon from DEI.Completely understand what your saying. I really just wanted an integrated solution and maintain factory appearance. FM modulation does not work well in my area - tried in a previous vehicle with a skifi 2. I was hoping that someone may have added an integrated XM solution with their factory HU.
