How long will this last - wire splicer

This is not a Vibe or Matrix. The red wire splicer (blue arrow) connects my fog lights to ACC, so when I start the car, the fogs come on like DRL. From what I know, it's not a power source, but more like a signal line.I had some problem getting the splicer on when I installed it, that I think I may have damaged it when I tried to close the clip.My questions are:- How likely do you think it will pop open due to normal vibration?- Do these splicer work by cutting the wire in half, like a knife chop into the wire? Or do they just cut enough into it to touch? So if it pops off, will the wires be in two pieces?

just put some electrical tape over it so it wont pop open

They don't cut the wire, just the insulation in order to make a connection. Is that the correct gauge wire for lights?

i believe djb is correct, it only breaks thru the insulation to make connection. i'm using one for my auxiliary input for my mp3 player. as long as the clip is completely snapped on it shouldnt open

As long as that is a trigger wire for a relay you should be fine, if it were a "power" wire, it would be much bigger and you certinly wouldn't want it connected there... but seeing as how it is just a signal wire, no problem. as far as the crimp splicer, i don't like them personaly, there is a chance that it will eventually break the host wire, with time and vibration. Don't just tape over it, but tape it up and down the wire, so the tape is supporting the clips and not the wire.... And, GO GET YOURSELF SOME DECENT TAPE... crappy tape is garbage ... Go get some 3M Super 33 and be done with it....

IMO, Posi-Lock makes a much better wire connector with no chance of the wire being cut by the connector. http://www.posi-lock.com/

I would guess the motor it self too?Was this mod a bad idea, you think?

Certainly wish I had those when I had the remote starter on the Vibe instead of the quick splices I used. Had nothing but intermittent connection problems ever since I installed it cause of them damn things.I have GOT to get me some of those!!
