Work Associates that are obnoxious.

Post by Whelan »

I am sitting on threads with this guy. He was my coach when I started and that was great, learned a lot. But I feel like he is shadowing me all the time now. I have been with my company for 1.5 years, not a real long time, but long enough to know what I'm doing. I work on two clients, where one client I handle pretty much 80-90% of the processing and the other I am about 30-40%. This is the client that my associate is on. I am working on an issue that was created by me and ivestigated/researched by me, and he proceeds to jump in the middle and play hero to figure out what I did wrong and what not. Such a joke that I'm being babysat and can't figure stuff out on my own and clean up things. I have a 1-1 with my UM today and I'm def. sayin something about this, I mean on my other client I don't get shadowed and worked over, I do my thing, get it done and nobody complains, just the opposite I get praised!AARGGHHH!!!!!!

Work is a frustrating environment. The business culture is setup wrong to praise the guy who puts out the fires - not the one that prevents them these days. Good work may go unrewarded and its becoming common to let something slip so that you can jump in and "put out the fire". Unfortunately, this isn't the best way to run a business, but its become set in stone. Also, studies have shown that Generation Y (or generation me) has an issue with praise - they were rewarded with it throughout their youth and have now come to depend upon it to reassure themselves that things were done right or satisfactorily. I like to believe I don't fall into this category but find myself doing so from time to time. It's a generational issue and a problem with the work environment. Not something you'll be stuck with forever, but you need to keep this in mind when one day you are in the bosses position.
