Off road

I just bought a 2007 5-speed. I wanted to know about experiences people have had taking their Vibe off-pavement. I hope to be doing some adventurous driving in my new beast.

When I had my car stock it worked great, even lowered it handles well on non-pavement. The stock tires are meh, my new tires handle better but I had no concerns when driving with the stock eagles. I have driven in loose gravel, grass, dirt, snow....Welcome to genvibe!!! any pics of the car!? Where are you thinking of taking it off road? conditions?

Thanks for the welcome. No pix yet: pick up is TOMORROW!!!I live in northwestern Canada (Edmonton) so I plan to explore the moutains to the West and the forest to the North. I'm interested in geo-cache, fishing, swimming, hiking. There are unlimited opportunities for exploring around here.

The vibe has a decent ground clearance for a car, but it's the wrong car if you want to do any serious off roading.

what Joat said. the vibe is a great car, but not really made for the true "outdoors." get an Outback wagon or an AWD vibe and it'll be a little "closer" for off roads and non-pavement trails.

Yeah, I'm not expecting anything heavy duty. Just can I get up a steepish muddy road?

But the Vibe is a great outdoor car. plenty of room and good on gas. Just not ment to be a mudder.

Get yourself another set of wheels and put some lower profile TRUCK mud tire on them. There should be plenty of room as long as they are close to stock size... Mav is on the right track (and a Subaru guy like myself) AWD would be your best friend out in the middle of nowhere...

ok... maybe those may be a tad overboard... but some good all terrain type wheels would help you out. remember, you're in a FWD car (it's gotta PULL you up that muddy hill) in a 130 hp little 4 banger engine.
