The Dream Cruise is probably the most important day of the year for me, more so than Christmas and all the other holidays lol. I was there for about 12 hours: 11am 'til 10:30pm. It stretched for about 32 miles this year I believe with I think over 1,000,000 people and over like 300,000 show cars or something like that, someone correct me if I'm wrong.Anyways, here are a bunch of pictures from the cruise. I also have the rest of the photos on Photobucket in the "Woodward Drm Crs 07" if you're interested in looking: http://smg.photobucket.com/alb...%2007/I have a bunch of videos as well if you want to hear the sound of true Detroit muscle If you were there you'd be able to feel it as well. At the end of the video all the flashing lights in a giant line are about 40+ police motorcycles and about 10 police cars in a giant convoy when they shut down the cruise at promtly 9pm. They block off every intersection and route EVERYONE off of the 8 lane highway in all directions.A HOLDEN I SPOTTED AT THE LAST SECOND:My two babies:
Many thanks for the vicarious thrills Merzbow, because I'll probably never get there in person.I love the lime green/black AAR 'Cuda!I can remember when they came out during the heyday of the SCCA TransAm racing series. And THIS photo is priceless! I don't know if you did it on purpose, or by accident, but the 'Self Esteem Shop' in the background is hilarious! You should submit your pic to the 'But Wait There's More' page at Autoweek.com!

My 2003 Vibe Base Auto 2-tone Salsa "SalsaWagon" was built in May 2002. I acquired it in Feb 2004/Traded it in on a 2016 Honda HR-V in Feb 2018.
we cruised around for about 2 hours in my grandpa's 1973 pontiac grand am wagon... yeah i said wagon.... he developed it as a prototype but it never got to production...... had a 455 in it and it can movewish i could put a 455 in the vibe! that'd be a wagon
What color was it??? I'm pretty sure I saw it. I mean, being there for 11 hours I'm positive I must have lol.Damron, I used to hate Michigan but now that I am getting older and pretty much every day there is a car show here somewhere near, and considering the insane amount of muscle cars here I don't want to move out of state anymore. The economy blows and the loooooong ridiculous winters are worth dealing with because of the awesome automotive season that follows. Move over here and I can show you a good time...as far as cars are concerned that is (removed).
I'll take the Green Cuda. I was gonna take the red bird but its not a Superbird, its a Dodge Charger Daytona. Same car essentially, but I like the Bird instead. I do have to ask if you are in Detroit, why in the picture of the Vanquish V12 Aston Martin would they call it a Kar Wash? And what is that newer 4 door silver sedan with the spoiler??? It looks almost European, what the heck is it? I keep thinking an Opel cause of the logo on the rear trunklid resembles the lightning bolt, but I am not sure.
Holy schmokes. That might be one of the coolest things I've ever seen. Why can't they have stuff like that around me? Oh yeah, I live in Wisconsin, and a college town on top of that. Maybe I should drive to Michigan next year. It'd be worth it. Now if I can just find a way to run my Vibe on drool...Nice pics Merzbow. Thanks for sharing with us. You're a lucky man to have been there. I'm uberjealous.
The Dream Cruise is held about 30 minutes away from Detroit on Woodward. We were on about 14 mile and Woodward. We were in Birmingham which is a very rich part of Michigan so my guess is they spelled it like that because they are rich and think it's clever lol.I personally love the Daytonas better than Superbird but that's just me. The Superbirds are more common around here and hte Daytonas are rare. The silver sedan is actually a Holden Commodore SV6 I think? It is a Commodore for sure not sure which sub model. I've only seen two Holdens around here in person and one was an Ute SS.BTW, VIBEwithanO, the Dream Cruise actually starts the week before the set date. The entire week it's friggin nuts on there...bumper to bumper cars, people camped out all night, thousands of cars all day and night. ALot of people that come from out of state get hotel and motel rooms like a year in advance so they can stay and watch the cruise ont eh balconies and stuff. There's a Scion club that's there every year at this one building. A lot of those guys are from out of state around hte country. All kinds of car clubs. Prowler club and stuff it's the best week of the year.
aaahh yes the Holden! Totally didnt even think of that. Must be some GM exec or close friend of who is really rich in order to have that thing over here. The Daytona's are def. a rarer find than the Superbirds, maybe I just like the roadrunner logo lol.
Very cool pics man...!!!I wish i could have gone, but, i had to go to Buffalo and get the Vibe.. Which i did...!!!I honestly didn't even know about the meet, but, i know that on the way back, going through canada, i saw more classics than i have in the past 2 yrs..!!! they had to have been coming home from Woodward... made the trip a lot less boring
I would have taken the Trix on a XC trip to see this place. wow!Love the superbird, *drool*I gotta get a pic for you tonight. This kid around the corner from me has a Plymouth Shadow (not even the DOHC 24v speedy one) and it's white with I think he painted the hubcaps light blue, and put a light blue "Plymouth" down the back quarter like on the superbird, I'll get a pic today if I can.
All I saw were mostly red x's, but I did see like the top 4. Which brings up something I've wanted to ask for a very long time.Would someone PLEASE explain to me what those stupid spoilers are like the one in the second picture? I absolutely hate those things--they do NOTHING for the look of the car--they just look welded or screwed in--not streamlined at all, they don't make the car flow--NOTHING. And is it just me, or does that car already HAVE a spoiler on it???

And is it just me, or does that car already HAVE a spoiler on it???OK well on the Lotus Exige which is a tuned version of the Elise, they are functional. It is essentially a track car so the downforce created helps to keep the back end snug to the ground for traction. And if you saw the Superbird Daytona's when those things were in NASCAR back in the day, that spoiler created a good deal of downforce at almost 200mph. Most spoilers on cars you see today for consumer purchase have a 0 degree set on them, they are mostly for show and looks. Here is another example of an extremely effective spoiler system. Porsche Carrera GT, Bugatti Veyron.
A spoiler like the one you pointed out is functional. Maybe not on ricer cars like you often see, but in this example it is completely functional. It will create lots of downforce resulting in better stability at high speeds and better handling.
You are killing me........The mustang in front of the Self Esteem store is priceless! And it's framed almost perfectly. And a '69 HEMI Cuda..... oh my god....

I realized after that it was not an Exige, duh to me.But if you see a kid with a big fake or F&F spoiler wing then just point and laugh. They typically sell them right next to the Afterburner II muffler in the Performance aisle at Pep Boooooyyyzzzzzz!Yeeeeeeaaaaah, Booooooyyyyyeeeee!
Yeah it's a Noble There were a few Elises there though....there's actually a Lotus dealership right where I was taking most of these pictures. The Mustang picture did come out funny as heck. I didn't plan that lol. I took a picture of that Mustang because it is modeled after the old '69 Mustang BOSS. I thought it was amazing looking. There was also a red/silver one too. That is pretty good though with the self-esteem shop (removed)....would have been funnier though if a Viper or some 16 year old in a Trans Am under it.
Quote, originally posted by rebbierae »Ok, so let me see if I get this straight--big ugly spoiler on a Lotus or a racing car: fully functional.Big ugly spoiler on a Neon: rice?Well, yes and no..... Almost any of the spoilers can be made functional, the kicker is they don't become functional until you reach out over 100mph or better... As mentioned they help with stability at speed.... the faster you go the more actual LIFT is created by a car (think of the shape of an airplane wing) at the rear... the only way to counter that is to place something (wing) in the air stream to creat oppsitie force... Did you know that many IRL cars could actually drive upside-down through a tunnel if they could get on the roof? But only at 200mph...
I've heard of that, sounds pretty awesome to witness if it ever was done too. That last pic of the red/black stang has what appears to be an old American Graffiti Style car. Like the old Fords with the open V8. Were there any rat rods there by chance? And rebbi, I could buy an adjustable spoiler from the boyzzz and move it so it has an angle, but its going to do absolutely nothing until I break at least 100mph in the car. So for the average person the stock OEM spoilers are 0 degree and set fairly low just for looks.
Oh yeah. There was a whole club of them. They were all flat black with huge engines and "trashed grungy" style, like run down and hellish looking real low to the ground. They were awesome. Of course there were also the nice and restored ones with shiny paint jobs and chrome engines as well.BTW I compiled a video real quick. I kept forgetting to take videos so that's all I got. Every time something sweet happened it would be too late by the tie i got the camera out. Check my first post above all the pictures or in this post:
the grand am wagon is silver with red/white/blue pinstripes, and white honeycomb wheelsyou might not have seen us though, we only got as far south as maple cuz the worlds most insane traffic jam was causing my uncle's 75 trans am to overheat, so we went north into pontiac, which was pretty packed but we could at least move
Quote, originally posted by Sublimewind »Well, yes and no..... Almost any of the spoilers can be made functional, the kicker is they don't become functional until you reach out over 100mph or better...actually it depends on the car, in one of my engineering labs we had a final project and one group tested that with one of those like 9ish inch models of a Porsche and according to their results IIRC were that it actually started to have some effect around 80 or 85mph. but of course under normal (or at least i'd hope) we dont reach these speeds every day. either way tho your gaining minimal grip and decreasing fuel economy more
I agree I doubt they really have that much of an affect on most cars. My mom's b/f has a Veyron he he took it to the track a couple weeks ago when it came in. He was telling me all about the unreal handling it has and what not. That spoiler from what he tells me seem to have a wonderful affect on the handling at high speeds.IMO I doubt people buy super cars for the fuel economy lol.

lol, I have pics of his Enzo, one of his 430s and one of the Maserattis but I haven't seen the Veyron yet. Don't worry, when I see it, I will post pictures.
Here is what we need, your car pictured next to these rides, and you sitting in these rides. Make it happen or face the false accusation police!Does your mom's b/f have a daughter who needsa cabana boy by chance.
Holy crap Paul.... Now i know why your kinda "meh" about various car things... When you have been in the best, what's left.... Either way, that is frikkin AWESOME for you man... congratz.... Quote »Does your mom's b/f have a daughter who needsa cabana boy by chance.2nd'ed.....
Yeah IO wish I had money too I'm broke and in debt. He is self made though and modifies all his exotics so it's not like some stupid celebrity that doesn't even work and has a ridiculous amount of money and cars just for the image.Triplets actually lol. Trying to get custody of them now cause his ex wife is a psycho. That has some to do with my opinions but I have very strong opinions about a lot of stuff anyways lol. He let me drive the 430 once....and yea after that, and I went to cruise the strip at night, seeing all those cocky kids in their Trans Ams actually made me laugh. They aren't that fast after all (removed) When he gets back from Cali I'm going to his warehouse to see his cars. Hope the Veyron is there but he promised me ride in the Murcielago. Maybe I'll get to drive that
Fine jerk I believe you, that's AWESOME!!!! Your a lucky man. Now tell your mom to marry him and get in the will to own those puppies, lol. I-N-H-E-R-I-T-A-N-C-EIt's the only word you need to know.Oh and BTW, I see a Vector, a big white Vector W8 if I'm not mistaken! I know Andre Agassi drives one, they are beyond rare to see! That is sooo up there with my list of cars along the Superbird, Hemi Cuda, and the 87 Lamborghini Countach
Yeah I was totally surprised when I saw that there as well! These pics were on a different day but it's the same driver's W8 twin turbo...obviously, like you said they are extremely rare. This was the only one I've ever seen in my life.
a veyron too, i remember you mentioning the others. very coolso when can we plan a road trip to Michigan to see these a few weeks ago i stopped at a local used exotic dealer and saw a Maserati coupe, and it was very nice, f1 paddle shifters and everything. i want one, i dont care for red cars but that and other exotics are exceptions
