New Member; factory warranty question

Post by afvair »

Good morning Vibe addicts,Just bought my first ViBE, a 2005 AWD and Salsa red. What a blast to drive. I have been admiring the looks of some other cars, like the Mazda Hatchback, and Toyota Matrix before I bouight the Vibe. Then my buddy bought a Vibe. I had never heard of it. I took one look at his and knew this was the best looking car on the road...and was so impressed by how much better looking the Vibe was than the Matrix or Mazda3.This car seems to be very well built car and the possibility of a supercharger is great. I found this site on the internet just yesterday and was reading everything I could about the supercharger. My buddy's car is a GT and that one is fun! My wife wanted an automatic so I was a bit depressed about it..but the AWD seems to have good pickup but I would like to find a Superecharger unit, or turbo it...so I am interested in any feedback from you folks that have done either of these. My BIG question is: I bought this car with two months left on the factory warranty. CAN I GET ANY SERVICE WORK DONE BEFORE THIS EXPIRES? For instance, when you buy a new car you take it back for a 5,000 mile free service, then a 10,000 free service, then a 20,000 mile free service. CAN I GET ANYTHING AT A 30,000 FREE SERVICE?This car has 32,000 miles and I would like to get any service work done I can before this warranty expires. Any ideas?afvair

welcome to the site, fellow genviberThe warranty provides for repair of malfunctioning parts. There are also recomended maintenance items, there is a maintenance list and schedule in the owners manual. Those things are not covered under the warranty. You talk about "a 5,000 mile free service, then a 10,000 free service, then a 20,000 mile free service" The routine service items that occur at a scheduled mileage are not warranty repairs and are not covered by the factory warranty. You can have the dealer do them, but they will not be free. The warranty will only cover things that break, you are on your own for the routine scheduled maintenance items.

Welcome to the genvibe community. As others have indicated, the warranty is just for covering repairs due to factory defects or parts that wear out prematurely. Even when buying new the cost of routine maintenance is generally the responsibility of the customer. Some dealerships offer some free oil changes as a marketing tool and to encourage buyers to use their service department, but such arrangements are entirely up to the individual dealer. E.g. ours only gave the initial oil change for free but they've had $5 oil/filter change coupons all summer.Since your warranty will expire soon it would be worth taking a careful look at the car to see if there might be anything that's not working correctly. Report any suspicious noises or other behavior to the dealer. That way you might have a record that a problem was already starting during the warranty period if something fails later.

I'd like to meet your dealers for past cars!I've never heard of this in most cars, I know BMW does an all included services warranty, but I've never heard of it on a car that's normally priced. As others have pointed out "warranty service" is no charge for 3 years, 3600 miles, but that's for defective items, not regular service.Diane

most regular scheduled services are not covered by factory warranty. And if they were, you'd only get the one required by your mileage.

I want to thank all of you for relying to my question on this list and by private email. This has been very helpful....thanks alot for your time.I now know that the maintenance list and schedule in the owners manual, are things that the owner should do at his OWN expense. I guess I was just hoping that the 36,000 waranty might give me a few things before it runs out. But as good as this car appears to be, probably nothing will go wrong...and thats fine with me.afvair

As stated the 30,000 mile service is probably at your expense. AND it will cost about 300 - 400 dollars, by the time they change and check all items, e.g., flushing transmission and adding new fluid and any 'special' additive. You can change the hepa filter yourself and do lots of the other things...just to get to know your car a little better.Any reputable mechanic can check out the vehicle for you for minimal costs, but the dealer has service bulletin info that could be important to your car. Good luck, I love my vibe, it does everything I asked of it...in style, comfort and economically.
