Grad student bolts air-conditioner onto car to beat Texas heatPosted Aug 11th 2007 8:50PM by Darren MurphFiled under: Transportation"Trust us, Texas isn't the only place on the verge of melting right now, but this solution to solving one's automotive AC problems is the perfect marriage of tawdry and frugal. As you can clearly see in the photo above, a University of Houston graduate student opted to retrofit a home air-conditioner into his vehicle rather than coughing up $1,200 to have it repaired the right way, and while we've no idea how much he spent on the unit itself, the wiring, or the additional gas thanks to the added drag, we have a sneaking suspicion that this mod was about more than dollars and cents. Click on through for a few more photos, but please refrain from trying this on your own ride, cool?"See the link for the pics.http://www.engadget.com/2007/0...heat/

Yeah, I'd have almost considered that after getting a quote on the A/C for my old car. The $1700 brake job on top of it was doom, though. Bye-bye tiny tiny coupe without enough leg room for a two year old (literally.. poor kid), hello beautiful new Vibe!

Haha... that is great! At least he has it strapped down to the roof and he is not trying to hold it on with his arm while he drives... like those people I've seen going down the highway who try to get a matress home, without using a truck.
