wow that is a joke, even the cobalt ss supercharged and mazdaspeed 3 beat it in the 1/4 mile. I think dodge just wanted to have "most hp fwd car" award..lame I wonder if it handles like crap? its sort of a tall car/suv thing.
lame! i thought it was gonna be AWD?? so it will directly compete with the speed3 really.... FWD turbo hatch. still, those numbers aren't anything to sneeze at. as DMaxx mentioned, just add a bolt on here or there and like the Neon SRT4, it will be pretty quick (removed). just don't expect high quality interior or to be made well... but i do hope they decide to make their piping out of metal this time instead of PVC piping like in the Neon. price point included, the Speed3 is definitely the better choice. Plus, you get the Mazda reliability and a/m scene.
"The front driver seat FOLDS FLAT."WOW! I wish our Vibes did that! That's some very useful engineering they thought of. I could then put in a couple 8' ladders in my car. Oh wait, then where do I sit?

yes, but did you read the article? it states there are concerns about the HP handling and that's why they went with 280 vs 300. that means the performance a/m scene will be somewhat disappointing unless you do some expensive reinforcements to the internals. unlike the Neon SRT4 where the engine and tranny could hold more power, looks like it's replacement will not.
It's funny that nowadays people think 280hp from a 4cylinder engine can be considered "a bit soft". I'm sure if they had another 20hp they could bump those times.I'm even more surprised they didn't put in AWD, or made it look even lower, it just has bigger fascias barely looks dropped and 19" wheels may be hindering its performance numbers a bit. Drop to 18 or 17 and you could save some weight I bet.

I do not see this as a joke at all... What were people expecting, an AWD HEMI? Get a 300C AWD if you want that. People will have to see the car in person too, I have. It is lower to the ground than normal Caliber. The only disappointment I see is that it is not AWD. However this is just the first year. Maybe next? I dunno...From a Caliber engine standpoint, this car has 110 more Horsepower then the 170 HP engine. That not enough for Caliber? I think it is! 280 and not 300! Again, is that really a show stopper? Nope! I heard 280 and not 300 because the 300 could not be harnessed to the ground. Too many one wheel peels! 280 to me is still much for a FWD but hey, I do not build them. This car has to be more than the Neon SRT4 and it is. Maybe not more than is competition, but this is just a starting point. Just my 2 cents...

JDM Japanese Domestic Market. I'm sure you were joking with this one, which seems to be the typical consensus over there, although just Domestic would work here, lol. They seem to be more mad that it is not at least equal to the SRT4 in performance numbers. I wouldn't shy from 280hp, but I am not a Caliber fan, give me a Mazdaspeed 3 and I'd be much happier.

the real srt people were pissed it was a mini suv in the first place... :S. I like that its a wagon, but yeah...awd would of been amazing (i miss the eclipse gsx ) I think with the mopar addon's it will be able to up the hp a lot, the mazdaspeed 3 has computer controls to limit the wheel spin in 1st and 2nd gear...dodge could of but i bet people would be pissssed about that limitation...OK so forgettign hp, 1/4 times. This car is sweet because its a wagon and turbo and a 4 banger....I want to go test drive it!
Quote, originally posted by drunkenmaxx »is everyone overlooking the utility aspect compared to similar vehicles? it will basically be a quick vibe-like vehicle with aftermarket support.Don't expect aftermarket support for this car. Dodge mentioned pre-production that 300hp would be all this motor can take and the only aftermarket support to expect would be suspension. It isn't the same setup as the neon, and with all the tranny problems keeping it from getting to this point, I'd hate to see its reliability issues once the SRT fanboys get ahold of it and give it some abuse.

Yeah they came out with it to pump up the power but the thing needed it. One of the guys at work has one (no SRT) and the weight of the thing really hurts the performance. I don't know the wieght of the thing but it feels like it weighs 800lbs heavier than that of the Vibe. He was braggin about how it has 18 hp more than the Vibe. I drove the car and it feels like it is tied to a stump off the line. Even if you dump the clutch at 3000 rpm. At least it looks better than that of the PT Cruiser.
If God didn’t want us to eat meat, why did he make the cow so slow? (Ever eaten a cheetah-burger? Nope. And you never will.)
i'm not a caliber fan. but it and the neon srt4 before it does show what dodge can cram into a smaller car. should it be the world car that dodge wants to take on europe? maybe not.if i wanted another sport wagon with more power than my vibe, i'd for a speed3 or an sti.

well, looking at the specs, the speed3 (more in it's class) still kicks it's (removed) with less power. but the power to weight ratio is what is making the SRT4 slow imo. hell, a stock LGT 5MT is rated to run 13.9 (have NO clue how they got this time, but they are pro drivers who can give the car back after abusing it to hell). and that's a car that weighs 3400 lbs. so if R&T and the other car mags are rating the SRT4 at 14.6 stock, your average Joe will maybe run 14.9- low 15's realistically. i think the weight is going to be a big factor. if i had to chose b/w FWD turbo'd hatch/wagon, it'd most definitely be the Speed3. that engine has a lot more it can give, tons of a/m support and reliability.

I've rented the Caliper with auto and I was not impressed at all. it does feel like its tied to a stump as someone else put. Even flooring it the car felt like I needed to get out and push. I was glad to get behind the whell of my car and have at least some power.I am surprised the SRT team is letting this car out with a 6 second 0-60 as they totd all the time that all their SRT cars were five second cars or better. Kinda breaks their motto. I am sure their will be some after market power support after all f you can turbo the 2ZZ and keep it fom blowing up they can probably coax some more power out of this car.
