Subaru's base engine

Post by shane_c »

How is the base 2.5 engine in the Impreza and Forester? I'm considering one with a 5 speed for my next vehicle. I'm wanting something with good fuel economy but with enough power for passing on the highway. Other vehicles I'm considering is the Mazda 3 (wagon) with 160 hp and the Jeep Patriot. I'm leaning towards the Subie or Jeep though because they'd be better in the winter with their AWD/4WD.

I have a '97 Outback LTD Wagon. It's got the 2.5 automatic with 165HP. It has way more passing power than the Vibe. It's incredibly smooth and quiet. I catch myself going 150 KPH by mistake because it rides so nice compared to the Vibe. Awesome in the snow. 271,000 KM and runs like a dream. Last time I checked, I got 33mpg, mostly highway.

I own a 2.5L Impreza RS, and i wouldn't trade it for the world, but, alas, i have to, because it's rusting out from under me... It makes enough power to do things like this... right now i'm getting about only 20mpg, but i also had to replace the MAF sensor as of yesterday, so i expect that MPG will be going up a bit... Good power, solid cars, good manufacturing practices, more "American" than most American cars...lol... AWD to die for... I'm looking at a 2k RS with a WRX swapped in right now, i will have this car....

NASIOC.comIt's about the biggest board in the WORLD!!!! over 100k in members!!! I've been on it since 2000 (member #1026 thankyou!!) and i will always be on it (Aaron'z 2.5RS) It's more of it's own entienty now... If somethig in the world happens, OT on NASIOC knew about 5min before hand... It's BY FAR the most comprehensive Subaru board out there.... There ARE others though, just GIS subaru forums.... NASIOC is just the best.... Enjoy..!!

Ya NASIOC is pretty tight, if you live in Arizona and have an AWD join AZAWD.org they are sick too.Sick RS by the way, i highly recommend you get it! my friend has a 96 Impreza LX that he is converting to an STI, he has the whole front end conversion of the 04 STI from japan and the side skirts and the spoiler, STI seats and he is dropping a WRX engine in it soon. its sick
