Extended Warranty?

I need to let my dealer know this week if I want to purchase the extended warranty--$2,180 plus tax. I do plan on keeping my Vibe (2005 AWD, 40,000 miles) to or beyond the period covered.Coverage will be for 5 years or to 100,000 odo reading. With what I'm thinking of driving (12K per year), the currently odo reading, and the fact that it's AWD, my Vibe would be covered under Vehicle One's Premium Coverage--which includes engine, transmission/transfer case, drive axel, steering, brakes, cooling, fuel system, suspension (front/rear) air conditioning/heating, electrical, seals/gaskets, and high tech.Your opinions and suggestions to this newbie are most appreciated.

I drive a ton, 25k miles a year at LEAST. And my vibe with 55k on it right now is still running great. I think if you do your own engine oil changes, spark plugs, tranny oil and transfer case oil changes your car will last a LOT longer and that extended warranty isnt needed. If you always bring your car in for work, then it may be worth it.

I really know nothing about how to make repairs and only know basics of required maintenance. I'm really hoping to learn more from all you guys and gals on here. I just spent a couple hours reading the entire Synthetic/Dino oil discussion. I'll spend tomorrow night reading your suggested threads. (Again, have not owned a vehicle in over 10 years--4 days a newbie and I my 2005 AWD Vibe.)

we all start somewhere! I love my vibe too! wish I had the AWD one but a set of snow tires may be okay for me for the winter. I stuck with dino oil because in the winter synthetic doesnt heat up fast and well the engine has been in toyotas forever with no issue. I also change fluid every 3k and tranny 15k so I have not had a issue yet! Dont be affraid to search the forum and ask questions!

I take it this "Vehicle One" is some 3rd party warranty? For the price you're paying, it's best to go with a true GM warranty. That way, you know you'll be covered wherever you go and you won't have to fight them to get things covered. Plus you won't notice much of a difference at all between your original GM warranty versus a GM MajorGuard warranty.

Then like CP said be used over the entire GM network all over the US etc. Third party ones make you bring it to certain places and have goofy terms and conditions.

Vehicle One is through and recommended by the dealer. I currently have no warranty at all. I'll scan and post the warranty tomorrow.All I've got to say right now, is all you "guys" are awesome.

which dealer?I bought my vibe at Hertz used car sales and they pushed their own warranty of course saying i could bring it anywhere. If I would of purchased one though it would be me calling GM and saying I need a ext manf. warranty. Dealers arent really part of GM they are like a 3rd party so if they have their own warranty or can make money off of a nonGM one they will. I wonder if that is what they are doing...

You would be better off if you took $2k and put it into a cd or some other investment. The extended stuff is only good for the seller not the buyer

I want to thank everyone for their opinions. You guys are really awesome and quite knowledgeable. Based on the information you've given me, and all the threads on the topic I've read, I think I'm going to pass on the extended warranty. I'm going to rely on the research I've done prior to my purchasing my Vibe, all the good I've heard, your know how and that of my friends who can hook me up with good and trustworthy mechanics when needed. I guess it's just common sense to keep up with scheduled maintenance, pay attention to what my car is telling me, and go from there. Wish me luck with no extended warranty.I'm looking forward to being able to chat and discuss more with you as time goes on.Thanks.

Add another "only buy a GM extended" into the mix.I'm not a mechanical person in regards to cars, when I buy new I buy MFR extended warranties so I know the car will run as long as I make payments. I would never even consider a 3rd party warranty, it's a scam to make money for the dealer. IMNSHODiane
