EZ Chill Air Conditioner Recharge Kit

Post by Charlievibe »

Hey everyone. I haven't been out here in a really long time, I hope you all are doing well.Question (and let me apologize if this has already been covered - please let me know where to find it) ... has anyone tried the EZ Chill AC Recharger? I read about it in the latest issue of The Family Handyman and really like the sound of it.However, I really am not certain that I want to try it unless someone else has recharged their own system and can give some insights. Here is the website to the company who makes this product, if anyone wants to check it out: http://www.id-usa.com/I would really appreciate any in-sight. If you all think this is a good way to go, then I have one other question...where is the low-pressure port for our AC systems? Please know you are not talking to a car expert, dumb it down for me as to the location.Thank you!!!

Low pressure port is on the tube/line that gets cold.

I've used it on friends' cars before and it's very easy. Just make sure you get one with a pressure guage attached to it.1. Start car, turn the blower and ac on HI, make sure recirculate is off. Leave all windows or doors open.2. Find the AC low pressure line on the passenger side of the engine. (the one with the rubber hose and aluminum pipe.) Remove the green (if i remember right) dust-cap from the line.3. Shake the refill can really well, attach the can to the port and check the pressure guage.4. If the guage is reading low then squeeze the trigger fully for 3-5 second bursts. The pressure gauge will max out each time you pull the trigger and is normal. The real reading comes after you let off the trigger.5. Keep filling and shaking until the gauge reads normal or the air temp in the vents feels normal.Only fill the line if you know you're low on refrigerant. Overfilling can burn out your compressor and be very costly to replace.

Thank you dj and Mase.Mase, great information, thank you. Quick question...will checking the pressure before trying a fill affect the level any? I think the only thing that has me a little nervous about the whole thing is making certain not to overfill. And honestly, my Vibe is a 2003 and I have never had the ac checked, so I don't know if it is low or not.

Checking the pressure before filling won't affect the level at all. Just connect the hose to the port and the gauge will give you a reading. Just make sure the a/c is running.

The re-charge kit I have says "turn a/c on to MAX", which IS re-circulate. Whatever kit you buy, just follow the instructions.

I have used this exact kit(with guage) on my 94 Mecury. My wife's vibe is still blowing cold and not effecting MPG too negativly.I like it 'cause you can use up the can and keep the guage and trigger assembly to use on another can!

time has passed on this thread but it was only talk about ac recharge, well i just did the ez=chill on my 2003 just like above, being carefull to stay below the yellow pressure caution band, thought i was done and next thing the pressure is up in yellow and then into red, with compresssor cycling on and off. now i got to do some serious research which will likely force me into the dealer to fix this mess. anybody else have to deal with overcharged situation like this?thanks

If so it sounds like a bad valve in the compressor.

Although this thread is old, I do not understand why CharlieVibe wanted to do this? Was there a leak?If someone recharges the system and does not fix the issue they will obviously only lose the refrigerant again. I am certified in AC repair and I strongly feel if any one is having issues with their AC to take it to a qualified AC tech.

I did it cause my AC wasn't as cold as I thought it should be. It didn't work though guess the AC just sucks. I overfilled it and the compressor kept shutting off cause of too much pressure so let the pressure back out down to a normal lvl and it works about as well as it did before again. Couldn't find anything online as to exactly what pressure vibes are supposed to run at so just went with the green area on the install kit which is around 40psi on the low pressure side.
