Big changes in my life

Post by shane_c »

Well I don't know what to feel. I'm very nervous and very excited at the same time. We moved from Canada's east coast 3 years ago because we weren't able to get jobs in our field. We've spent the last 3 years in Alberta and have been miserable. It looks like it might have been worth it though. We bought a house last year and have had great jobs and gained great work experience almost since the day we got here. We've been looking to move back east and last week I had an interview at a university in Halifax doing the same job I do at the University of Calgary. So I flew down for it and then afterward went to visit my family for a few days (first time in 2 years). I'm back in Calgary now and just had a call saying I was the preferred candidate for the job and they were seeing if I was still interested and whether they could contact my references. I know it's pretty much a done deal but don't want to get my hopes up until things are finalized. So once it is we'll have to look at getting the house sold, packing everything, finding a new house, and then I'll have a long 5-6 day drive ahead of me.

Oh Shane, good luck! It's always scary making a decision that will no doubt change your life--but hopefully it'll be a change for the better and you will be SO glad you did it! Good luck with the job, and the move after that!

Thanks everyone, I'm still waiting for the official offer. I know she contacted 2 of my references today. Then I need to make sure we'll be able to get approved for a mortgage again for the new place. If not then we will need to figure if we go or stay.

congrats...i bet you sell the house in Calgary for A LOT more than the house you buy in Halifax! With that in mind...i'm guessing getting approved for a mortgage shouldn't be a problem with the decent increase in your net worth.
I have signatures turned off so I'm not even sure what mine says in this space!
