Magnaflow's on but...

Post by Herb »

I didn't really notice any significant performance/power gains. At least not as much as I did when I put in my Cosmo CAI.I probably should have taken it to a shop. I can't cut straight to save my life. Note for anyone who wants to use a reciprical saw you can rent one from Home Depot. I rented one, $11.00CAN for four hours.Second note, if you've never used one before, buy at least two blades, and maybe some scrap pipe to practice on.I managed to make a bit of a mess of mine so I lost about 1/2" on the pipe.Look at what happened to the blade!

A shot of the resonator. I know one of the insulators is gone. I lost that a few years back when I ran over a rubber wheel chock on the highway.I've ordered one from a dealer, but he said it'll be 2 weeks. I guess I should have tried a Toyota dealership.

WOW......... I have no ideal how you did that, but i do have a suggestion. The longer blades are not the greatest to use, you should have gotten one of the shorter blades. When you say that you lost a 1/2" on the pipe. Is that on the stock pipe or the new pipe?

That was the shortest blade they had. They had one half the width thoughThe length I lost was on the stock pipe. The Magnaflow pipe does overlap by quite a bit, but has slots to allow for compression when using the clamp. When I have it at proper length, I can see a gap in the slot of the new pipe.I think welding the slots would solve the problem.Quote, originally posted by 02csnow »WOW......... A shot of the exhaust tip

Yeah, I know it's not centered. I'll play around with adjustments after I get the replacement insulator. That and I'll probably have to get a sleeve made or get it welded to make up for the lost length. One of the bends near the axle is about 1/8" from the heat shield so I definately could use the extra length.

Audio clip on the highway, accelleratingI did notice that the shifting wasn't as loud with my new short shifter. The recording I did after my CAI install I could hear the stock shifter more.

Now you just need the DC Sports Header. It's the one mod that'll give you the best performance per buck.

I have it on hand already. I don't think I'll be tackling it myself though.I did look at the inside of it and I'm a bit concerned. The ends of the pipes where they come together in the larger opening has bits that are roughly cut and sticking out at bit. I would tend to think that'll affect the flow, and possibly cause some turbulance. I'm wondering if I shouldn't use a Dremel to grind it down a bit.

I would say either use a dremel or just a file and try to get it as smooth as possible. To me that just does'nt look good.

Yeah, I'm a bit disappointed considering how much it costs, especially since it's supposed to be a higher end performance part.Quote, originally posted by 02csnow »I would say either use a dremel or just a file and try to get it as smooth as possible. To me that just does'nt look good.

I don't remember if mine was like that or not. Regardless, your performance gain will be from the improved piping and following flow. The stock manifold is horrendous.

I've read that the stock header on the base Vibe is poo poo. However I also read that the stock GT header is actually pretty good. Guess I'll find out one way or the other.Quote, originally posted by Petrucci914 »I don't remember if mine was like that or not. When I did mine,I used a hack saw.Using the reciprocal saw by myself, would have been too much of a pain. One word of advice, weld it when you get a chance, they tend to leak after a while. As for the header,I would port match it,since it looks rough from the casting. But,I know a few people who have used the stock ported manifold, and yielded better results on the dyno than from the header.

Ya, the stock GT header is almost the same as the aftermarket one. You'd be better off port and polishing the GT one. But the Base one requires replacement.

For a GT header the best was to get it p&p'd by boosted 2.0 he did so much research with flow tests and gains to get the best hp/torq out of it. But he is taking a little vacation from porting those so I have to wait Nice looking exhaust though. How do you like it as a daily?

Well it's not really a daily driver vehicle. My work supplies me with a Dodge Ram that I drive most of the the time.My Vibe has become more of a recreational driving car, which is sorta why I've been doing the mods. Just to make it more fun to drive when I do take it out.

My DC sports header didn't look like that! But mine is actually for a celica. Just ever so slightly different. Installing it was easy. You should be able to do it. Just let me know, I'll talk you through it.

I don't know. I can just see me busting some bolts. That and climbing on top of the engine to contort to odd positions to get leverage doesn't appeal to me right now. I did something similar when I was younger and thinner when I changed out an EGR valve on my Shadow.Still it couldn't hurt to at least look at your proceedures to see if it'll inspire any confidence in me. I wouldn't say I'm totally inept, but not having a garage to work in isn't too fun for a bigger job. According to the instructions, they call for 2 hrs.Quote, originally posted by Lancer »My DC sports header didn't look like that! But mine is actually for a celica. Just ever so slightly different.
