05 Dash Rattle

Post by deadbolt67 »

My Vibe has just turned 39k and a rattle started almost over night. It seems to come from behind the instrument cluster or just the left of it. It sounds like a loose piece of metal or two pieces of metal vibrating against each other. I took the cluster out, the center trim and left trim off and then drove the car looking for the culprit, but so far nothing. Any ideas would be great appreciated. Thanks!

i dont know about one on the left there but it is fairly common to have one on the passenger side and is caused by the 2 ac vent pipes which are made of plasticcheck out the how to thread on removing the dash, you may be able to find some ideas from there, check step 8 http://forums.genvibe.com/zerothread?id=9977

Well this takes the cake. I removed most of the dash a week or so ago while still chasing the noise. No luck. Finally, I ran out of time and had to put it back together. This weekend I was searching for a pair of sunglasses under the front seat and found a quarter resting on the module mounting bracket. I removed the quarter and the sound is now gone!! I could not believe all that work wasted. HA! Oh well, at least no more rattle! Thanks for the information!
