Maintenance at 30k miles/50k km?

Post by 21Rouge »

Our 5 speed Vibe was bought new in May 2005. So far in this time I have done.- very regular oil changes (always synthetic). - changed the MT fluid a *couple* of times (currently using Amsoil)- new cabin filter (last summer)- new pcv valve (last fall)- new air filter (last winter)- rotated tiresCan I hold off replacing the coolant and spark plugs till next summer?

Sure, if the car isnt drivin HARD then yeah I would if you have to wait. The spark plugs are suppose to go to 60 or 100k but most members here change things in 1/2 of what the manual says. I did my coolant a little over 30k and plugs at like 40, tranny fluid at 50k. Mine still runs great...hahah i hope.

I'm sure some people go 100,000 miles without changing their coolant. So, with that said, you should be ok...I'm not one to push coolant changes, but you could always take a sample of the coolant and send it off to a lab for analysis. Compare the analysis to original or call the coolant manufacturer and ask for acceptable levels of contaminants...I'd say you want to make sure that pH is very 7.0-8.0 and that total hardness is relatively low...that said, they may not give you all of this type of info as I've never sent off a coolant sample. As a side note, some of the Amsoil fluids are not API certified, and thus may (big emphasis) cause problems down the road. I don't have the time right now to look up which ones are certified and which ones aren't.

Yeah, you can take a sample, they sell kits cheap too.But for the $20 and 1/2 hour of your time,it's safe insurance.I've noticed with owning a Toyota,if you keep up on the fluids, the engines and tranny's seem to last longer
