GM Car Audio Questions

Post by ilangsfs »

Ok... I have done some light searching and have yet to find any concrete answers to a few questions I have about my radio and replacing it with an aftermarket unit.First a little background. I have a Pioneer DEH-6600 and Pioneer GEX-920 (XM Tuner) that I had in a SVT Focus and everything was gravy. Then, I sold the Focus and attempted to put the duo in my now wife's 2001 Aztek not knowing about the silliness of GM's audio setups. Long story short, Best Buy whom I normally rely on for car audio installation parts (not in the installations themselves, but rather just the harnesses, install kits, etc.) was telling me that I needed a $120 part to "properly integrate" with GM's so called Body Control Module. I looked into it and found that on my particular Tek, all the BCM did was control the delayed power function of the radio and be a "door dinger". So I opted not to get the $120 part. After much frustration and cursing, I got both parts installed and working in the Tek. That said, my first question is, does my 2003 Vibe have that infernal BCM too? If so, can I get away without the $120 adapter like I did with the Tek? Eventually, I'm looking to get a DVD/Navi headunit put in, namely the Pioneer AVIC-D3. Also, I'd like to get a sub of some kind and some upgraded speakers. I don't need brain rattling bass, just some nice, full sound. Second question is, how hard is it to remove/replace the headunit and speakers? Does anyone have any experience with the AVIC-D3? Sorry for the long post and thanks in advance. Any info would be greatly appreciated!

http://forums.genvibe.com/zerothread?id=19021 If you have M&T with the amp under the passenger seat that is a great thread.Diane
