Wiring help -- put back the factory stereo.

My 2003 AWD Vibe with moon & tunes had a buzzing rear speaker (even with stereo off). Not realizing I had an amp under the passenger seat, I had my stereo replaced first. When the buzzing didn't stop, the amp was discovered, removed, and bypassed. The aftermarket JVC had enough juice for the 6 speakers, and I can't say I missed having a separate amp.But.. this is just the start of the problems..I missed the station and song name display, which apparently doesn't exist on aftermarket radios of the non-HD variety. I missed having a clock that was on, even when the radio was not. But most of all, AM reception on the new JVC unit was non-existent. 25 stations on my factory stereo -- NONE on this one. After struggling with this for months (at times, using my portable shortwave radio whenever I needed a traffic report, sticking its antenna out the window -- i know, i know), it was out with the JVC, and back with the factory radio.Except, of course, I don't have the wiring schematics to pull this off. I have several pairs of red speaker cables that need to go back into the original adapter that plugs into the back of the factory radio, and 12 holes in that adapter (one already occupied by a lone white wire). Any tips for which order they go back in? Best Buy was happy to install the aftermarket radio, but in putting the old one back, I'm probably on my own.Oh yes, I'm assuming the factory stereo will work without the external amp, as did the aftermarket JVC unit. If my delusions of ever pulling this off need to be shattered, by all means, shatter away. Thanks for any leads at all on this.

You are probably better off looking into another aftermarket deck with better AM tuning and a full time clock. I'm sure it's possible to put it all back, but without the amp, I would think the factory output would be pretty weak , going back to M&T means getting 2ohm speakers. Here's hoping the audio guru's on here can provide some better insight.

Those wires don't go into the 12-position connector. It only has that one lone white wire and that's it.Everything else hooks up to the factory unit through the larger 24-pin connector. (There are two connectors to the factory radio).Best Buy may have cut off and trashed the original 24-pin if you can't find it anywhere.ALSO - the speakers used with the factory amp are 2-Ohm. The factory head unit by itself cannot drive them - you'd need to replace the factory amp as well or swap them out with 4-Ohm speakers.

I think I misread this the first time. Do you still have the factory speakers? you mentioned several pairs of red cables, did BestBuy run new wire to the existing speakers or did they replace them too?

Stock, there is 12V coming out of the stereo to power the antenna amp. If bestbuy didn't hook that up to the new stereo, it might be why your AM reception is so poor.

Thanks everyone. I did find the 24pin connector, and I see now that the speaker wires do go there instead of the smaller (and essentially unused) 12-pin connector. Yeah, I heard about the AM amplifier that sometimes has to be explicitly connected, but I can't tell whether Best Buy hooked it up or not. These days with no one (except me) caring about AM, it's definitely possible.I got the original midrange and separate tweeters in the front, and infinity speakers in the back (I put those in earlier). So I guess I'm now operating in a mixed 4ohm / 2ohm environment. Anyway, I did buy a new amp while I was there today, so I'll reply back once I have the wiring for the amp and factory radio all done.
