Audiophiles: Have a question about A/V Receiver signal routing

I'm looking to replace my old Kenwood 1080VR receiver and have a question.Can I set up a signal loop between the Front L+R pre-outs and the multi-channel input for Front L+R speakers?I have several external signal processors (1/3 oct. Graphic EQ, BBE Sonic Maximizer, Carver Sonic Holography generator) and would like to keep them in the audio chain. My current amp has a monitor loop (note blue rectangle in pic).Below is an example of what I'd like to do with a new amp, but I don't know if it will work (blue rectangle in pic}

It looks like the new amp is set up to do exactly what you want. It should work for the front as well as the center channel and surround if the EQ can handle all of them.

What are you looking to replace it with?If you like Kenwood. I could give you a suggestion and go with the Kenwood Excelon, it is a little pricey but well worth it.

sublimewind: I'm already using a EQ for my center channel (running through amped TV speakers).02csnow: I haven't picked a specific brand/model yet. It has to have at least 100W/channel into 8ohms with THD of less than 0.07%; 6.1/7.1 sound; Dolby Pro Logic II or THX certified; have a phono input, component video (HDMI optional).Looking at Yamaha, Sony, and Kenwood. Even though Kenwood is out of the home audio business, some of their older receivers might work for me.The Excelon is a car receiver...

Er..no. No that won't work. In order to 'hear' your signal processing gear you would have to have the Multi Channel input selected, which of course would create a loop.The MultiChannelInput is for 7.1 Analog inputs, such as from a SACD player or something that doesn't have a digital output of some kind. It won't be active 'all the time' unless there's some setting in the amplifier, which I wouldn't be too sure about.Edit: I'm guessing that's a fairly high-end unit, so the pre-outs only exist if you were going to use other, higher end and discreet amplifiers for those outputs.

Jahntassa: I agree that if the multi-channel input is configured as a discrete "device" by the receiver, then the receiver only routes the signals if that device is selected. That's really the question here: are multi-channel inputs on all the time or are they selected. Now that I'm watching myself type this, it wouldn't make sense for them to be on all the time! So, I'm guessing that the only way to get these processors in the chain is to use a tape/MD loop and daisy chain them. I'd have to set up a switch to bring my cassette deck in the loop as well. What a PITA.BTW, that second illustration shows the panel for a Sony STR-DA3200ES ($800 retail, $500-650 eBay/street).

I don't know man, if i were you, i get rid of all the processing.... The more you process the more color you add to the sound... I used to work in a REALLY high end home audio shop (http://www.speakershop.com/index.html) Although i did car installs, i got to hear some of the most amazing audio lines in the world (a 70k system wasn't unherd of)It was a big deal to process as little as possible... I'm sure you are going for something different though...

Well, most of the processing goes to recovering older audio (phonograph and tape) and I've got about 500 albums and maybe another 200 tapes (mostly mixes). However, the Sonic Holography is on almost all the time; that's a cool little box.

Right on, i'm just speeking from my OLD days of when i worked in that shop... and boy what a time it was... I still have 2 sections of speaker cable that was GIVEN to me, after shortening a customers cables 3' eash, he gave me the cut off ends..... at 120$ per foot!!!!! it's like 1" diameter and has 16 solid core conductors per cable....
